As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,159, roughly 3,000 of which were considered permanent residents. Contrary to its name, it is not near the center of South Carolina. It received its name from its geographic location, being the halfway or central point between Atlanta and Charlotte along the former Atlanta and Richmond Air-Line Railway line. The primary campus of Southern Wesleyan University is located east of the downtown area.

My friends and I were picking up lunch for some hungry baseball campers, so we dashed into this Subway near the University. Very fresh ingredients, friendly and efficient staff, and they had no problem accepting our coupons from the morning newspaper. It's a great location, too. I would certainly go back to the Subway in Clemson.

We go to Mcalister's when we are in the area and the food is consistently good. Restaurant is always clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. Salads are good!

Had the turkey and cranberry sandwich whis was delicious. My wife loved her brown rice soup. Order at the counter and they bring you your food. Serve yourself beverage station. Good food and good value. They close at 9 so get there before 8:30
