Geteria is know more for being the birth place of Cristobal Balanciaga and that the best quality Anchovies in Iberia are landed there. Well El Kano is not out of place in the above list! Traditionally cooked sea food, Basque style. Asier will look after you. We had Pecebes to start followed by a trio of charcoal grilled fish served with sympathetic vinaigrette.Scorpion fish, Halibut and Hake, all cooked to perfection accompanied with an 2010 Albariño from old vines, 60-70 years old, made from a 1 hectare plot. The attention to detail is first class, as is the service and the typical basque hospitality. Whether it's a taste of a couple of glasses of reds to see which one you may prefer to have with your cheese, or the small bottle of extra virgin olive oil on your table, Asier and his staff will take care of you like you are a member of the family. Book and enjoy, you will need to park up the hill near the museum and after a 4 or 5 hour lunch you will appreciate the escalators that go to the museum, and a helpful addition to struggling up the hill!!

A real gem. Lovely location overlooking the small port and beach. Wonderful staff. Very efficient and very happy people. The food was excellent. We shared the Jabugo ham to start. Wow! The best of the best ever. Literally melted In your mouth, delicious. Enough for two to share. Followed with a lovely tuna salad with a great dressing. Finished with lobster in rice was amazing. Then ...... the cheesecake. OMG simply lovely. Not like any cheesecake you will have eaten before. So lovely forgot to get a picture. Then the surprise would be spoiled. Not expensive and all made better by the location and lovely staff.

Grilled turbot fish is my top choice within our lunch meal. Texture and taste is superb ones. I love also their lobster. Recommended. End the meals with their cheese cream with stawberry sauce and phyllo pastry with coffee ice cream. Top meals..

Restaurant located in the heart of Getaria, next to the port. Specialists in grill, fish, seafood and wine, with own nurseries and winery. Fresh and seasonal products. Since 1962
We visited here because we âd read a recommendation by Australiaâs celebrated chef Neil Perry who suggested this could be the best seafood restaurant in the worldCouldnât disagree moreOur own Jim the Greeks in Melbourne had better seafood at half the priceWe shared a dish of Calamari which was ok but nothing special then a tomatoe salad which was nicely presented but the tomatoes were unrulyWe then share a plate of Turbo(whole fish) which was nicely cooked and presented but WOW at â¬96 way overpriced When we asked for the bill the waitress placed the machine in front of us and said....tip...No way given the very average serviceHeterosexual is a nice place to visit but my advice would be eat st the Tapas bars nearby or if you want seafood choose a restaurant down on the water not up on the plaza

This is a large, busy, restaurant in the port of Getaria. It should be in your records.
You have to climb stairs to have access to this restaurant. The windows overlook the fishing harbor. The waitress was very patient as she waited for us to make a choice. She showed us the fish before it was grilled. The for was excellent.

We had high expectations for the seafood restaurant based on TripAdvisor. The elderly hostess greeted us and took our jackets. A waiter/salesman came and explained the restaurant menu to us, pointing out several types of fish that they were out of. Once he took the order we never saw him again. The waiter was followed by an individual who helped us select our wine - we never saw him either. There were several helpers who presented the dishes and took our plates when finished. The wine was placed in an ice bucket on the far side of the table where we were sitting. When I asked the helper for assistance and pouring another glass of wine she moved the bucket closer to me and said âit was now easier for me to serve myself and my wife.â I have never had this kind of service or response, particularly for what is promoted as a fine dining restaurant. As for the food it was average in preparation served lukewarm and accompanied by mixed grilled vegetables (when I asked the waiter what type of vegetables his reply âsummer vegetables.â )Everything served was à la cart. This is not a cheap restaurant and there were adults wearing shorts and sloppy looking Leviâs. There were young teenagers teasing each other & disrespectful of their parents. This experience was very disappointing and not only would I not return, but I would discourage others to find a real dining experience.
