Classic fish & seafood in an elegant and friendly environment.
This place was recommended to us by our concierge, and it was so good that we ate here twice during our stay in Montreal. It is always busy so reservations are needed, and in fact we could not get a table until 8.15 on our first visit. It was absolutely full so was a little noisy but had a really good atmosphere. The menu is varied with several excellent fish options, which is what attracted us. We had the salmon, cod, halibut and the Dover sole on our two visits and they were all absolutely spot on. The starters were equally good, especially the soupe de poisson and the tomato soup.On our first visit, the wait between finishing starters and the mains appearing was towards the long end of what you would consider reasonable, but to their credit, they did spot this and sent out some amuse-bouches to quell the restless diners! However on the second occasion, although the restaurant was equally full, the slight delay was entirely within a reasonable timeframe. The wine list is extensive with a few well chosen offerings by the glass, which are on the expensive side because they are not your usual entry-level wines, (eg. the by-the-glass whites started with a Sancerre and a Chablis, and an entry red is a rather good Burgundy). This was absolutely fine by us as we tend to avoid cheap entry level wines anyway.Service was exemplary on both evenings in every respect. It is clear that the servers are completely au fait with all of the menu items, and that they have a very good grasp of at least the main wines on the list. This was the best dining experience in Canada (so far) by some margin. It was absolutely excellent and we can wholeheartedly recommend Chez Delmo.

I'm not a fan of fish and chips because I don't care much for heavy greasy batter. Brit and chips was everything I would hope for from fried fish. The batter is light and crispy and flavourful. The first thing you will notice when you drop in is the quaint small dining counter type restaurant. The open kitchen is the focal point of this small shop. You will get your choice of fish, haddock, cod, hake and perhaps one more that I cannot remember :). The prices are very reasonable and you can get a 1/2 pint for $4 which is very good.If you are in the old Montreal/Convention center area this is a great lunch option.

The Ritz referred us here, but the food was average, at best. OK onion soup, poor steak, good fries, inattentive service, free glass of champagne (from Ritz referral) but it wasn't very drinkable (and we like champagne). And a singer (a la Harry Connick) that wandered too close to your table. Some may like this, but we didn't. We go to a restaurant to dine and this felt more intrusive.Dear NYTraveler023,We value immensely our 12-year relationship with the Ritz-Carlton, the trust they place in us, and the business of well-traveled guests like yourself, seeking a wonderful French dining experience in downtown Montreal. We are proud of our cuisine, but we believe you when you said it wasnât up to your expectations the day of your visit. A wonderful experience, all around. The facade is deceptively unimaginative, since all the food inside is creative and beautifully presented. The menu changes frequently, but the selections are modest each night-- maybe five possible starters, and five main dishes. Half fish and seafood; half from the land. Vegetarian options also available. Nice wine options, as well as some not listed but recommended by the waiter. The desserts are scrumptious (again, a selection of about five). I had octopus as a starter, and the black linguine with seafood as a main. Portions are just right--you won't waste any of it, and yet will be quite satisfied. The service is personable and attentive, without hovering, and the food is prepared promptly but without any sense of hurrying you along. The place is busy! The interior is warm; the food preparation is visible. There is a taxi stand across the street.

Food - poor. A Pikilia plate should demonstrate basic Greek-cuisine capabilities. The taramasalata, eggplant puree and tzatziki were all quite poor. The skordalia (garlic mashed potato) doesn't belong - Would you really enjoy mashed potatoes smeared on stale bread? The taramasalata - one of my favourite things - was a tired, bland gelatinous paste. The tzatziki just one-dimensional fiery garlic without subtlety.Bizarrely, the Pikilia was served without any Greek pita bread. Apparently, they don't even have any pita in the place. This alone is surely all you need to know of a Greek restaurant. Lamb - frenched chops - seasoning okay. Small amount of meat, irregularly cooked. Gristle.Tired old version of imitation Greek cuisine.

It is said that laughter and good times are fuelled by exquisite food. All of these can be found at Ferreira Cafe, Montreal's veritable ambassador of Portuguese cuisine. Warm and refined, while chic and relaxing, Ferreira Cafe continues to be a true favor
Really wanted to like this place and was looking forward to some Portuguese cuisine after just returning from Lisbon. Started off poorly as they were 25 minutes late in seating us (but that stuff happens on a long weekends). Service in general was not poor but rather indifferent: slow and things had to be requested more than a few times. The steak was pretty good but the signature cod dish was massively disappointing (and had multiple bones). After having so many great meals in Montreal (i.e. Liverpool House, Bouillon Bilk, L' atelier, this was a big disappointment.

We tried the cheese plate with homemade tomato (!) and orange rind marmalade for dessert. The jam was very surprising and lovely paired with pur cheeses. Mike, our waiter was personable and gave us excellent service. We enjoyed our anniversary evening here.
