We evacuated to Statesboro from Hilton Head Island during Hurricane Dorian. We live in our motor coach and stayed at Parkwood RV Park. Different friends who also stayed in Statesboro recommended The Boiling Shrimp. The location could have not been more convenient; it was an easy five-minute walk to the restaurant through the park. I called in for take out twice during our one-week stay in Statesboro. The waitstaff answered the phone right away and our orders were ready in 10-15 minutes. Both Madison and Kaitlyn were helpful, kind and knowledgeable about the menu items. We ordered the Grilled Shrimp (16 shrimp on 4 skewers); Grilled Salmon and Seafood Gumbo with extra rice served in a separate container. The entrees come with a side of Cajun rice and veggies and your choice of Garlic Butter, Cajun or Lemon Pepper. I chose the Garlic Butter. The Seafood Gumbo was so good, we ordered it a second time. On that order, I was offered the option of extra shrimp for $.50. The shrimp and salmon were generously portioned and we couldn't eat it all at once. The leftovers were just as delicious. The orders were ready when promised and put in a cute takeout bag. A menu was placed in each bag. Cars always filled the parking lot; the restaurant opens at 11:00. Online ordering is available. "We proudly offers dine-in, take out and catering."If we ever have to evacuate again, The Boiling Shrimp will get our regular business.

Food is excellent. The shrimp and grits can only be gotten here. They fry the fish and shrimp perfectly. Not greasy and not over cooked. The grits are always creamy. The restaurant is a little dark inside and hasn't been changed too much since it opened but it is clean.
Looking for some local seafood "dives" with good food I read on TripAdvisor about the massive servings and good seafood at the Southern Crab House. We sat in the adjacent parking lot and looked at it for a while before going in! They have a lot of fresh fish and other products like conch plus a steady stream of clientele coming in for huge pans of shrimp for BBQ's, single dinners and some uncooked fish. This is truly a dive type beachfront (except it's on a parking lot not a beach) place. The walls are covered with an assortment of hand lettered signs and the locals seem to already know what they are getting. I went for the combination shrimp and scallop platter with french fries for $14 which the person at the counter assured me was enough for two. There are no tables so all food is to go but they provide you with napkins and forks. One sauce for each order or pay extra for more. The main clerk said he was from Mexico and when I asked where the shrimp came from he said South America or .....I should have asked where the scallops came from. They had a lot of farm raised fish I wouldn't eat like Swai and Tilapia. The other clerk was from Nepal and a third man came out with my order and I'm not sure where he was from. There was a constant stream of local people sometimes spending hundreds of dollars for crabs and shrimp for a party. It's an enormous amount of everything and all battered and fried. I don't think the scallops were real scallops but possibly skate cut to look like scallops an old trick.Unless you're an experienced world traveler I wouldn't advise the Southern Crab House although we didn't get sick and it was a lot of food for the money....real scallops or not!
