This great little restaurant is a real charm. It does not pretend to be anything it is not. A truly authentic family business serving local food at reasonable prices.My partner and I were recommended this place by a local girl in the tourist office in Porta Moniz. We reserved during the day for later that evening and both took the main dish of black scabbard fish with rice and limpets. We both started with a soup vegetable and fish both good, wholesome and unpretentious. The main dish so fresh, tasty and simple, accompanied by a good white wine.The total bill for us two with the half bottle of white wine for under 40 euros.The lady that took our reservation in the afternoon and served us later that evening was friendly and helpful and had no problems speaking in both English and French. The place is spotlessly clean, airy and homely. A truly great little place for sampling the local cuisine.

We happened to stop at this place by fortune while driving along the north coast of Madeira. Good fortune. We had a great rice with shrimps big and small, mussels, clams, cockles, squid, octopus, crab,... Plus a bottle of young wine Quinta da Aveleda, a salad of fresh produce, dessert and coffees, all for 46,60€. So happy!

As a couple of others have noted this is odd this is at number 1, we arrived 11.50 and told they werent serving food, when we asked when they could they said 12pm so we insisted we sit and wait for kitchen to open. other customers turned up after us and their order was taken before ours, there was no local bread just as another review says. and the menu only had 4 options. food was very average im afraid. dont go here expecting an amazing dining experience.

Traditional island food from the most mouthwatering Bolo de Caco, which we went back for twice, good espetada and good fish and sea fish. The nice comfortable atmosphere, hosts who were open and friendly and giving us hints and tips about where to go and which the best Mass on Christmas Eve would be the best for our elderly companion, all made for a very pleasant dining experience. And the passionfruit mousse ...... wonderful.

This place totally surprised me. We stopped here Sunday for lunch. The food, service and prices were excellent, very impressed and those that know my blog will know I criticise a lot of places on the island. Defiantly in my top list of Restaurants to eat on Madeira. We stopped here on a tour and had a set menu with wine included. The soup was bland and needed seasoning but pan fried sole was excellent and served with boiled potatoes and salad. The wine was plentiful with a choice of red or white or a soft drink. The staff were friendly and helpful.
