Stopped in for lunch on a recommendation from local colleagues. The lunch menu has good selection at great value. The steak I had was fantastic, and the bit of seared ahi I sampled from another person's plate was incredible (never thought I'd like it). Service was great as well. My friend and I dined here on a Thursday night. We sat in the bar and had great service/recommendations from the bartender. The hostessâs, however, need some refining. They werenât impressed that we didnât have a reservation while there were plenty of tables around. The trout and wine selections that the bartender suggested were great. Excellent Brussels, too! Super food, super service, just need to work on first impressions by hostess staff. Nancy,Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and feedback with us! As some of you might know, I do not hand out 5-Star/Excellent ratings very often. I reserve the top rating for places that provide a great all-around experience, and exceeding my expectations. Champy's of Madison successfully accomplished it all!We ate on a late Friday afternoon, and we were immediately greeted and seated by a friendly and welcoming hostess. Our server Lauren N. immediately came a took our drink orders with an equally friendly and welcoming attitude. Our goal was to try out the many menu options that we both like and had heard or read about, being really good. So we ordered friend chicken, fried catfish, mac-n-cheese, jalapeno hush puppies, tamale, key lime pie, slaw and baked beans. Let me assure you that each and every item, down to the tarter sauce and sweet tea, were "excellent". The menu selection is extensive, as is the beer and beverage selections. I personally felt that the prices were more than reasonable for what was provided, both in quantity and quality. Eugene, the proud owner of the place, stopped by and spoke with us and impressed me with his sincere interest in wanting to understand the customer and their opinions and ideas. There is no doubt that we are now hooked and will be devout regulars here. Thanks Champy's, (Eugene), for coming to Madison and providing us with a great place to eat, drink and enjoy!
