Restaurants in Livingston tend to be marginal and pricy. Gamboa Place is an oasis. The quality is high, portions generous, and prices reasonable for Livingston. They serve traditional Garifuna and Belizean cuisine, and strong coffee. Itâs up an alley off the beach, but the entrance is well marked. Once you reach the restaurant youâll find an open air patio, clean tables, and a fresh colorful friendly environment. And they have Marie Sharpâs hot sauce on every table. These folks are very much a part of the surrounding Garifuna community, so just ask anyone when you reach down to the sea. Itâs just north of the âdiscos.â Tell them youâre looking for Gamboa and youâll likely meet with a friendly greeting. They also seem to be well connected to local fishermen, so this would be a good place to try some fresh fish. Maybe some hudut.

I love to try local flair and cuisine and Rachon Mary is an institution in RÃo Dulce for Tapado, a regional seafood specialty soup made with a coconut milk base and served with shrimp, crab, and fish. It's not cheap, almost US$20. It's also not that great. I've found far better food for far less cost. I would recommend this restaurant because of the setting, but urge travelers not to set their sights too high. The food was just ok, not at all congruent with the high costs of the food.

In my opinion, if Rosita's is not on the list for your culinary experience while in Rio Dulce, you are doing your party a disservice. Before and during my trip I asked who had the best "Tapado" in Rio Dulce. The unanimous answer was Rosita's! My family and I walked from Las Viñas Hotel in the evening and came to the restaurant after walking through the lit boardwalks in the bayou. Reminded me of some restaurants in Baton Rouge, LA and Savannah, GA. Now the food... The best Tapado I have had in Guatemala. The caldo and seafood were perfectly cooked. My family had shrimp and other seafood and enjoyed every bit of it. Go and Enjoy

A family owns the restaurant and you get cheap home cooked food. The specialty is called Topado and it is a type of seafood stew cooked on coconut milk.

Buga Mama seems a bit "touristy" and the food was just average. I had the grilled whole fish, and it was pretty typical, nothing special. Maybe some local sauces or salsas would have helped out. The fries are "fast food style" frozen fries, the salad, iceberg with some weak looking cucumbers. My server was quite pleasant and was very attentive. It seemed a bit expensive for what I received.

This is little bit confusing, because they have a Tour Company and also restaurant and it seems that some people are writing about that restaurant and some about Tours(which include lunch here). We had a Rio Dulce River/AK-Tenamit/Livingston Tour and with our absolutely great guide Freddie it was just perfect! 7 hour boat tour through Jungle/Rain Forest, included several interesting stops, lots of information and OK lunch and all this for 55 usd/person! There ain't too much to do in Port of Santo Tomas de Castilla, so this is perfect way to spend your day

I wasn't sure how this place would be, but the food was excellent. The grilled fish was cooked to perfection and tasted fresh. The coconut rice and beans were delicious. Vegetables were cooked al dente and incredibly flavorful. The location is on the street but you forget that when you dig into this divine food.

Homecooking with meaning!!
We had a couple of meals and a breakfast here on the lovely terrace watching Livingston's life unfold in the street below. The Thai curry is lovely full of fresh vegetables, the coconut rice and beans just a bit plain and maybe sticky but still good. The vegan burger is also tasty. The owner (or manager) is lovely and passionate about healthy eating and she gave us some interesting info about Livingston.Remember to order your dinner in advance as everything is cooked freshly. Alternatively you can order your food and have a drink or two while you waitDear Freefred, Thank you so much for your visit. This four star review comes with an asterix. In this secluded little town you have to lower your expectations. Anywhere else the food would have only earned a three, at most. The setting is quite nice. You sit outside next to the dock with lots of palm trees around. The waitress was sweet and an excellent job.You could a lot worse.
