Where to eat Japanese food in Jacksonville: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Apparently this is a relatively new business and they have some kinks to work out as indicated by the previous reviewer. The lady at the Towne Place recommended it. It was a Friday evening. At the location you order at a counter. The food comes in take-out containers that can be opened and used as plates. They have about 8 tables where customers can eat. The bathroom was clean. Based on my experience, the majority of the people getting food took their food out. We ordered so that we had crab cakes (They are sides and the price is for 2 reasonably sized cakes), scallops (the menu says 8 scallops which were really four whole scallops cut in half), shrimp and fried oysters. They have both broiled and fried food. We liked the shrimp the best but everything was good. For the broiled plate we got corn on the cob (probably previously frozen, broccoli (which was very good) and half of a cooked potato. For the fried plate we got French fries and 2 hush puppies. For the broiled platter, they asked whether we wanted it mild or spicy. We chose mild and it was still very flavorful, not bland. At the Towne Place we were given a takeout menu so we tried to call in an order so we could pick it up and take it out. I called multiple times to both numbers listed with no answer and no message other than the phone company saying that no voice mail had been set up. Finally, I got someone to answer and I said that I wanted to place a take out order and he said that there would be a long wait, then in the back ground I heard a female voice say we are not taking orders, and then he hung up without saying anything. They could at least have a message saying that they do not take phone orders during peak times. We went to the restaurant and when I placed my order I told him that I had called and that they had hung up on me. He said that they were busy, which was true due to the number of people waiting. I had to wait about 20 minutes for the food on a Friday night. Bottom line is that you need to go there to order if you want food at prime time. The number of people there waiting to get their food is an indication of the perceived quality. I would agree with the lady that I asked if the food was good. She said, Yes, especially the broiled. I would get the broiled next time if I am ever in Jacksonville again.
