Reviews on Seafood food in Fowey, England, United Kingdom. Fowey (/ˈfɔɪ/ ( listen) FOY; Cornish: Fowydh, meaning 'Beech Trees') is a small town, civil parish and cargo port at the mouth of the River Fowey in south Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The town has been in existence since before 1300; the estuary of the River Fowey forms a natural harbour which enabled the town to become an important trading centre. Privateers also made use of the sheltered harbourage. The Lostwithiel and Fowey Railway brought China clay here for export.

We have been here for the past 3 years and b previous occasions we have really enjoyed our visit. Today we decided to bring my 89 yr old aunt for her birthday and as there were 7 of us in our family party we understood we would have to wait for a table, and were told to come back in 30mins and theyâd have a table for us. Really disappointed when we did so and they had then given our table to another party due to a mix up between staff. Poor customer service. I appreciate we all make mistakes but surely reserving tables for customers is a very basic task that surely can be done correctly.
This restaurant does not accept credit cards. Selection is small. Food is average. Service was excellent.Indoor seating is crowded. There is a nice deck outside, for which reservations are suggested.

We are a family run restaurant, we specialize in fish & shellfish caught of our own boats Karen Marie - scalloper, Celestrial Dawn - Trawler, Tamara - Netter. We are open from 6.30 pm closed on Tuesdays. We also open Sunday from 12 for our roast dinner se
Lovely compact restaurant. Staffed and run by an all female team I believe. Good quality food. Some might say it was expensive but I thought it good value considering the quality of the food served. You get what you pay for, as the saying goes!! Plenty of fish dishes as you would expect. The lady who served us was so friendly, she said she had relocated to Cornwall a couple of years ago and has now made it her home. She went out of her way to accommodate a fellow diner whose partner had got stuck in traffic and was getting a bit anxious. She told him not to worry, it wasn't a problem, they would just wait until he arrived as she didn't need the table for anyone else that evening, so it wasn't a problem. I would recommend you book in advance as there are not many tables and it is popular.

We had dinner here twice during our week at nearby accommodation. On both occasions I had the mussels starter and they were simply the largest juiciest best mussels I have ever had, and a substantial serving of them too. The staff were friendly and chatty and helpful (especially fitting us in after we abandoned the neighbouring Sams-on-the-beach). I've marked them down one notch because their main courses are too large : everybody in a party of 8 failed to finish them.

A Fowey favourite under new ownership (2019)! Specialists in Cornish crab and seafood, offering a menu full of original creations and classic favourites. Everything homemade and locally sourced! Enjoy your food overlooking the beautiful river or take away
To day we were walking through Fowey on a lovely day and thought a crab sandwich would be nice. We stopped at Captain Hank's crab and snack shack. At £8.95 from a mobile stall the cost of a sandwich seemed expensive, but crab is not cheap and we hoped to have a great sandwich. What a huge disappointment, for £8.95 we got two enormous slices of rather sweet white bread with a very chewy crust and the thinest slither of crab meat in mayonnaise with a couple of sprigs of dill. The taste of the crab was hardly discernible and the bread was a massive amount, totally out of proportion to the miniscule amount of crab.I complained and was offered my money back, this I refused as I felt it was better to write a review and warn others than to take the money and allow this service to continue. Later on as we were walking along the street a lady came up to me, and said that she had heard me complain and like me she had thought the sandwich a disgrace and had also complained. She did not tell me whether she was offered her money back nor whether if she were, she took it.All I can say is be warned - Fowey is full of excellent cafe's and restaurants and crab sandwiches, full of crab can be purchased at many of the.I'm terribly sorry you left unhappy with your experience. It genuinely upsets me that this is the case. I work 7 days a week most weeks and am going through one of the hardest periods of my life (grandad died, mother in acute care in hospital, father unable to look after himself properly - all in last 2 weeks) whilst trying to run a business single handedly. I say this not for sympathy but perhaps to explain why there might have been a brief lapse in quality. It is never my intention to rip people off which is why I immediately offered you a refund and apology. You refused this, as is your prerogative, but I don't understand why. I hope you accept my invitation to return for a crab sandwich on the house and I'll prove to you why I've received 26 other 5 star reviews. Kind regards

Samâs on The Beach, is situated in a beautiful restored RLNI Lifeboat House right on the oceans edge on Polkerris Beach. A stunning location and decor with exceptional views and evening sunsets over St Austell Bay. Dishing up locally sourced and caught Se
Lovely location. Beautiful settings, views and the overall restaurant itself is very nice. Staff - seemed to lack a bit of enthusiasm and seemed quite unorganised. Had to prompt for drinks orders to be taken. Food was lovely and they really do a great job of seafood. Drinks are overpriced £5 the cheapest pint and that is their own lager too! Overall, lovely place and lovely food. Just let down in a few areas which is slightly disappointing when your paying top money.

Told no food. That was the end of conversation from the bar man. There were no tables to sit at other than a stool even though there were no other people inside the pub.We were looking for a quick meal after a long walk and would have finished long before the reservations arrived but it was immediately apparent wasn't even worth asking. Someone came and asked for takeaway fish and chips - might have been nice if the barman mentioned that possibility when he said 'no food'.

Went in for lunch on a Saturday and the staff were friendly and welcoming and was not that busy, was shown to a table in the main area.First impressions was surprise at the number of dogs in the restaurant with one dog trying to fight most of the other dogs with a lot of barking.Waitress brought drinks quickly and I ordered the Mackerel pate for starters which came with four small rye crispbreads. Not enough crispbreads for the amount of pate which did not have a strong mackerel flavour. For mains I had the Beef burger which arrived on a wooden board and the chips in a small bucket. The burger bun was nice but the burger meat was dry and way too much raw red onion and a huge slice of tomato which made the burger hard to eat. I have never tasted coleslaw like this and the chunky was very strong. The paper between the burger and wooden board added to eating the burger with a knife and fork difficult.Partner had the Sea Bass which was very good.Wanted the crème brûlée but was told they had not set yet but I suspect they had run out.Overall ok food for the price but barking dogs and dinners allowing their dogs to sit on their lap while eating is not conclusive a nice place to eat.Thank you for your recent review, we are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience with us here at Havener's.Fowey is a very dog friendly town and although we only let dogs into part of our restaurant we do seem to be a very popular place for people and their pooches! Please ask to be seated in our dog free part of the restaurant next time and we will be pleased to welcome you, we will take note of your points regarding what let your meal down and really hope to improve these for your next visit

Sams, opened in 1987. Still standing the test of time.Something for everyone. Hope you enjoy.
Set in the old lifeboat station, a nice spot with views over the beach. Inside itâs really nice and there is an excellent wide range on the menu as well as good drinks. We will be back again.
