Empoli (Italian pronunciation: [ˈempoli]) is a town and comune in Tuscany, Italy, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Florence, to the south of the Arno in a plain formed by the river. The plain has been usable for agriculture since Roman times. The commune's territory becomes hilly as it departs from the river. It has given its name to a local variety of artichoke.

Fish and seafood specialities
We stumbled upon this restaurant which is opposite the train station in Empoli. The lunch we had was very good. Fried mixed seafood and a porcini risotto. the atmosphere is very pleasant and the service is good. Not the cheapest, but an enjoyable experience. 30 euros for lunch for two.
Our restaurant is born from a great passion for cooking handed down from grandparents to the present day. The quality of the products and the attention to freshness of the latter are one of our priorities to make our customers feel pampered in every way.
The waiters were very nice, helped us translating the menu, and were in gereral attentive. The food was delicious, maybe the best pizza ever, the pasta homemade and the seafood fresh and tastefull! We also had dessert, homemade, tasty icecream and cheesecake! We are only sad that we found this amazing restaurant our last evening, so we canât comeback for more!!

Poor food, poor service. The room was dirty and the tables not cleaned. Only the toilet looks clean in this place. We came for lunch and the menu has only 10 dishes from which none was tasty. Seems like it is working mainly at night and if you stop for lunch you are served the left overs! No wifi.

We happened to be in Empoli, after seeing most restaurants in nearby Vinci overrun with bus tourists (no seats available) during the 500 year anniversary of Leonardo's death. Restaurants en route that had been labeled âOpenâ were closed for lunch. Pretty desperate, and hungry by now, we found Osteria La Ghiotta by chance, in an unassuming side street. While the location may not be perfect, the ambiente, the service, and the food were all super! I had branzino (fish / bass) with a tomoato / parmesan crust and super tasty fried potatoes, and my husband enjoyed the spaghetti vongole. The Tirami Su was perfect, too. Our meal was extra enjoyable because of the lovely lady who served them. Seems she was the boss of the establishment - and despite being very busy, and being the only person serving everybody in the Osteria, she was unfailingly cheerful, quick and friendly.

Visited this retaurant after discovering it by chance online.Considering Naples is the birthplace of pizza, it seeemed only right to give it a try.On entering the restaurant a waiter proceeded to show us to our table. We entered a normal restaurant setting but our waiter kept on walking which led us acroos an open air space full of tables and then further on to yet another open air area of tables where eventually we were seated. The menu of pizzas contains some which we hadn't tried before such as 'horns of the bull' and deep fried calzone, both of which we decided to try. They were fabulous although the calzone is a bit heavy and with either I wouldn't necessarily order a starter which we did and again was a traditional neapolitan offering. As you enter the restaurant, you see a cabinet displaying a range of pastries also traditional to Naples. Excellent place for something a bit different

We wanted to try this new restaurant, after having used the original La Fortuna in Empoli on many occasions in the past:the new offering is much larger than the original and has a light and airy feel to it.We opted to try it out one lunchtime when they have a buffet arrangement. As you enter you are offered a table and once you've ordered your drinks, you go up to the hot table, where two ladies ask you what you'd like from the display. On this occasion there were, three starters, two meat dishes, one fish dish, one mixed vegetable, two noodle dishes and a rice dish.Happy with what we'd selected we returned to our table with very full plates where we found all the items were obviously freshly prepared and very tasty.Having finished we returned to the counter to see if we could try some of the items we hadn't tried previously which now also included some fried meat and fish starters and also Sushi. We took some of each and again found it all really well prepared

I wanted to try a new restaurant and the as always I trusted the review of this web site, so I booked a table for 4 to celebrate the purchase of my new home! This restaurant opened recently by a restoration of an old country house bringing back the old glow while incorporating some modern details. The staff was cordial, except for the end of the meal where they were purposely (I suppose) trying to get us to notice with some noise while pretending to clean the tables near us, that the restaurant was about to close, we were the last table. We stayed that late because we had really a good time, the company was excellent and the food was simply delightful. We had the mix seafood starter, which consist of a variety of small hot dishes and a big tray of raw goodies from the sea.We then ordered 4 pasta dishes that were good as well, and we had the Tarte Tatin for dessert.I will definitely go back hoping they will keep up the good work!

Searched out this place based on TA reviews. On entering the restaurant which only had eight diners in we were rudely asked by a surly waitress to sit on a small table squashed in between other diners. When politely asking if we could sit at a better table close by we were again told no. We left. Donât care what the food is like if itâs served by rude obnoxious staff like this avoid at all costs.

Storico locale di Empoli, custodisce al suo interno le storiche mura della città risalenti al 1507 in ambiente elegante.
Figures first, as usual: total 35 EUR for 1 outstanding dinner for 1 person1 fish fillet over artichokes sauce (filetto di pesce con carciofi): 18 EUR1 mixed salad (generous serving): 3 EUR1 cheese pudding with pears sauce (budino di formaggio con pere): 8 EUR1 wine glass of local vines: 3 EUR1 large set of small house dessert (dolcetti della casa): complimentary1 bottle of mineral water sanpellegrino1 cover charge: 3 EURThe place at first sight looked to me a sad large room with little furniture and an internet radio making noise in the background. I was hungry and it was late, so II decided for the "prisoner of war code of conduct" that is provide only name, rank and service number if questioned and select only few healthy choices from the menu.So I choose the fish fillet and a simple salad... ...but when it was served it was love at the first bite ! And my perception of the place changed dramatically. The balance of taste between the steam-cooked fish and the artichokes was a real piece of art. I sent my first congratulations to the Chef. Then the mixed salad: very fresh and rich in vegetables came with companion bottles of excellent olive oil and aromatic vinegar. But my second congrats to the Chef was for the cheese pudding: ONCE AGAIN the combination and balance of taste of cheese and pears sauce was mind-blowing.Wine: I was poured a very generous glass of local white wine made with vines of san colombano trebbiano & malvasia. Astonishing quality for the price !Finally I want to mention the very nice service received with my waitress answering all my questions with details and being always present without being pressing. The final touch was the collection of micro-dessert she brought them to my table after I asked for the bill and for free.So what could improved ? well...let me think...may be just the radio...

What can I say, the food was absolutely amazing and I cannot recommend Ciborgo highly enough! The quality of the seafood which just melted in your mouth and the dishes were well presented. It's hard to pick a favourite! I think We were in a group of 8 people and the service was impeccable. The sommelier was quite knowledgeable and recommended cracker of a white wine to accompany the seafood dishes.
