Take-away.
I dined on a Friday evening, which followed a day that had been busier than expected, so some menu items were not available (lemon sole, plaice). I chose scampi rather than the cod or haddock options but the portion was just as generous, well-presented, tasty and enjoyable. The listed building has no scope to install draught beer but a choice of bottled beers, ciders, wines and soft drinks is available. I chose chocolate fondant for dessert, which was very good. The staff were helpful and enthusiastic and I believe part-time work is offered to students from Durham University.

We enjoyed a decent Italian meal at this quite large restaurant.... however its size can be a problem as even on a Saturday evening it lacked any real atmosphereNotwithstanding that though, we found the food to be pretty good quality and all was reasonably priced - even though they did mess up a couple of our main course orders

This is by far the best fish and chip shop in County Durham. I've never been disappointed. Chips are lovely and the fish nicely cooked. Falls apart on contact with your fork. Excellent value for money. Worth going out of your way to visit.
