My elderly mother and I dined at Champagne for the first time. First, we received a complimentary glass of champagne. Very good. The ambience of the place is not above average, but the food was superb. We had a shrimp cocktail, shared a wedge salad, and had steaks that were cooked exactly right. Very delicious. Yes, they are a little pricey but you get 2 sides with your entree, which is more generous than other similar restaurants. We had absolutely no complaints with anything. Our server was great also (Jeff). Thanks for a great meal, Champagne!

Family atmosphere, great service, eclectic decor from good supper clubs days, good food done right. Friendly people work here and dine here. My favorite has become the walleye, broiled to perfection, with choices of potato, and all include the nice salad bar. Great beer and liquor selections. Tell them General Bob sent you.

If you are a history nut the continuity flaws of the 1920s speakeasy theme might drive you nuts like the 1950s picture of Hepburn on the wall, fortunately the decor is a bit sparse allowing for the historic building to shine. Service was really good and prompt. The cocktail list is great with lots of variety but an extra dirty martini came out almost pure vodka, so maybe they don't know simple classics. The menu has a lot of variety too and food came super fast after being ordered. Portions are filling and not huge but I was sad that redskin mashed potatoes are 100% a box mix and not made from scratch and it left me wondering how much of the rest of my meal was pre processed and not fresh made. The flavors were good but I expected better food quality based on reviews.Hello StephP and thank you for your review. We're so glad you were able to stop in at Hops & Rye. Great observation about Ms. Hepburn not being from the 1920s! I'm a big fan of hers and love that picture of her in the wide brimmed hat so I put it up for fun, even though she's from the '50s. I always feel like she's winking at us from her spot on our brick wall. I hope you don't mind if I correct one statement from your review, our red skinned mashed potatoes are made from scratch daily. Our chef makes all our bread, sauces and almost everything on the menu from scratch. I apologize if the potatoes didn't taste that way on the day you visited us, usually they're a favorite of our customers so we must have missed the mark that day. I appreciate your feedback, it allows us to continue improving the dining experience we provide our customers. I hope you'll visit us again soon. Teri
