Established in 1982 were a family run business and pride ourselves in sourcing and serving the best quality food available in a clean and friendly environment. We have a large menu so you will find something to suit most palettes, particularly our fresh C
I went to pick up tea and ordered haddock and chips. No haddock so I had cod. Fair enough, the fish tasted of nothing, not well cooked and soggy. There was enough chips to feed four people but you couldnt get through them all if you tried and it doesnât compensate for a bland, soggy cod. I ordered a large mushy peas and a large gravy, got home and only had small ones. The assistant seemed to be more interested in talking to another customer who was her friend than making sure my order was correct. Iâll be going to High Pit from now on. I bet they had Haddock and Large Peas and Gravy. Hello. Sorry to hear you weren't happy this evening. Yes we had no Haddock today...its becoming very expensive to buy in and the last few weeks the quality has been poor...so we decided to not put it on the menu this week, that's for the customers benefit not ours. If you are used to the taste of Haddock then its quite possible that you will find Cod to be bland as it's a much milder flavoured fish. Once again apologies for not having the fish of your choice. The fish and chip boxes that we use have two separate compartments...one for fish...one for chips. Its physically impossible to get 4 portions of chips inside of them..fact. Soggy? Depends what you define as soggy...although some people request their fish to be well done we believe that overcooking is not to most people's pallets and like to cook the fish so that it still contains some moisture..personally theres nothing worse than a lovely piece of fish that's been overcooked! If you are a regular customer and care to take notice of our menu you would know that we only offer one size of sauce (peas, curry, gravy etc) for one singular price...if youd like more...buy more. Simple. The girl in question that served you tonight lives near Gateshead...I can guarantee that she has no "friends" in the area as she is my daughter. She was most likely making conversation with other customers.Thank you for your enlightening review. I hope High Pit can reach your needs next time.

we dont live far from here so it is more going for conveinience when we fancy fish and chips rather than the taste. it does seem clean but i dont think they value you as a customer not many smiles when serving. not good not bad just average. portions could be bigger.

Following my Mums funeral 15 of us had a meal here. From my first contact to paying the bill at the end I can honestly say the experience was brilliant. Nothing too much trouble, everything explained and nothing taken for granted. Really lovely experience. The food was delightful, fresh, and portions were a perfect size(hate it when restaurants pile on the food and you have to leave some). All members of my party expressed great pleasure with the restaurant and staff and food. Would highly recommend.

We had a pensioners special of fish and chips with pot of tea at only £5.95 each. The portions were large and the fish very fresh. Would recommend.
