The place looked so good - in a glass cage protected from the cold winds, table-clothed tables nicely set for the hungry customers. A sprinkle of local diners. The garlic bread was among the best we tasted that week. The white wine was fine. One of us asked for mussels and french fries. The latter were hand-cut and fresh, but unfortunately the huge orange chewy mussels came open faced with a cheese bake. My shrimp risotto looked good but had to be sent back as inedibly over-salted. The replacement Ceasar salad was made of limp lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, greasy strips of chicken, and packaged dried bread. Not a hard-boiled egg, leaf of iceberg or flake of parmesan in sight.Obviously, we chose wrong. People eating the paella looked happy and the monster slices of cheesecake were wolfed down all around us.So, be warned. Choose right!

Restaurant is part of the Savoy Calheta Beach hotel. Choice is limited for hotel guests. Service was fine and the ambience pleasant - it made a nice change from the main hotel dining room.Dear Client, Thank you for taking your time to write a review regarding your experience in our Restaurant Onda Azul. We are truly happy that you had enjoyed all aspects of your meal and our ambience as well. It will be an honour to welcome you back in a near future for another gastronomic experience, With our warmest regards and âmuito obrigadoâ, Ricardo Augusto Manager

We enjoyed the open air seating, sea view and breeze, fine drinks, and delicious bola de cago, fish soup and lapa mussels - it is worthwhile to come here and hang out. Owners speak various languages (English, Spanish, German), staff is super friendly. After lunch go for a walk through the village of Jardim do Mar, a real garden with old houses and lots of terraces, a repaired water mill and very pretty village. Great place, highly recommended. Child friendly.

Restaurant was completely empty and it took us 15 minutes to get served at which point or entree options are limited because they waited so long to serve us and the kitchen was closing. Also, they have a "special" tourist menu that doubles the price of all entrees - isn't that cute!? Not a fan of that practice, won't be back. We are tourists but we're quiet and like local places; these people weren't as friendly as you'd normally encounter in Madeira.

Went here for drinks. Terrible over-priced: we payed twice as much for two beers than in similar places nearby.

How lucky we are to have this establishment as our local place to eat when we visit Madeira each month !Always friendly service, very fresh quality fish, great selection for the adventurous to try and basic scabbard fish, rice, chips and salad never disappoints.Itâs nice to sit in the restaurant or outside on the boats, not posh just good basic quality food for fair prices.

On one of the most beautiful locations of Madeira, the port of Calheta, our Restaurant New era is located. The cozy covered terrace offers an attractive view over the port. It is a pleasant meeting place with a relaxing atmosphere. Wether you want to take
This restaurant was the only one, outside of the hotels, trading in Calheta owing to the stabilization of the cliff faces directly above the marina, whilst we were staying at the resort in mid-October. It offered a good range of seafood dishes, including the celebrated black scabbard fish, caught in local waters, served with banana, another local delicacy. It also as served a super version of the local bread with garlic, Bolo do Caco, literally balls of cake. Try its devil shrimps, best washed down with its cool beer.Great for sunsets, too.

What a find. Recommended by the owner of the house we are staying at and already planning to go back next week. Our group mixed it up with seafood, lamb and beef. Each one better than the other. Being particular to seafood myself I fear that this restaurant will have spoiled it for life. How can anyplace else compare? Fantastic ocean view overlooking a ruins from the days of yore. This is a must go place.

We didn't expect to find such a casual and relaxed place to enjoy the local seafood. And it was great, we just wish we had more time to try everything. The owners were warm and inviting, really down to earth and dog friendly! Gregorio and Filó were wonderful. The cook was great and even shared a recipe! Lastly, Francisco took great care and even taught a little portuges. Muito bom!
