We visited English's first time on the Friday afternoon as part of a walking foodie tour in Brighton. This gave us our very first taste of oysters - having recently moved to Jersey we had every intention of giving them a try, but this tour beat us to it. Well, we really like them, so decided to come back the next evening for dinner - are we glad we did!We had a couple of cocktails to start for appetisers, then we shared a starter of mixed oysters, - quite different tastes and texutres, of course washed down with a glass of champagne. The waiting staff were very attentive, bringing the relevant drinks with the different courses - which of course you would expect, but still should be noted as not all restaurants are good on this! Then for mains I had the lemon sole with mushroom and prosecco risotto and crispy kale -divine, and my other half had scallops - which he also enjoyed. We didn't have room for dessert (had a basket of bread to start too). When the bill came, the waiter realised we had been there the day before, even though we had booked the table in a different name, so unprompted by us, and also unexpectedly, he took the bill back and returned it with a 10% discount - decent, honest service - you should be proud of yourselves.A great evening, it cost us about £100 for 2, but we drank a fair amount and ate extremely well. Yes, it's a lot of money, but if you can afford to eat here, do so - you won't be disappointedDear Charliev1970Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Our next door neighbour studied in Brighton and recommended this restaurant. From what the waitress has told us, itâs under new management since a year. Located just of London Road, in Baker Street, we almost walked by the restaurant. Interieur is basic. Ecstatically, thereâs fish and chips look absolutely fantastic. Taste wise, there very good. The batter is crispy, the fish fluffy. But the fish could be seasoned a bit more, as the taste is quite neutral. Nonetheless, service was very good and attentive. We were seated at a table were our peak could fit. You can order fish & chips in three portion sizes, so the review calling the portions small is factually incorrect.

Mekan Charcoal Grill & Meze is a Hove based restaurant bringing you to unique tastes from Turkish, Mediterranean and Cypriot Cuisine.
Despite having been advised that Mekan - which had briefly gone through an incarnation as âFishmekanâ - was seemingly a successor to the excellent Makara restaurant, once from further down Church Road in Hove, this was our first venture inside. Why the delay?⦠Well, the location has, over recent years, been the host of a number of ill-fated ventures and there was a worry this might prove the same. Immediately on entering, we realised that worry was unnecessary - the place, at 8pm on a Saturday night, was full and clearly the attendees were all enjoying themselves. The menu is extensive but we made some well-worn choices and were delighted to find the standard of Makara had been maintained. A minor downside is that the one-room restaurant is vast and the extremely high ceiling and lack of absorbent furnishings makes for perhaps an over-noisy ambience but the sound of exuberance wins over library-style silence for me any day. Mekan is now firmly on the ârevisit soonâ list.

Now open on the beachfront â Riddle & Finns II is the sister restaurant to the highly acclaimed Riddle & Finns in The Lanes.
What a find. Fantastic lunch sat outside by the beach. Brilliant service - gorgeous menu. We had a few small plates and a couple of bottles of wine. The tempura prawns were amazing. Would thoroughly recommend as a chilled place to have really great food. Loved it!

Fabulous service and delicious food. The best Greek meal Iâve had before by far. The waiters were extremely friendly, offering their help with dishes on the menu and the chef came out himself to see if everything was OK. Iâm here with my family on holiday and will definitely be going back before we leave. Please can you open another restaurant near me in Kingston Upon Thames!Thank you so much for visiting us and for taking the time to review us! kind regards

We are back from our winter break . Itâs time to get going again. We are staring with Finest Native Oysters (only available when there is no R in the month). WOW these are great. We have fresh filled rolls with our famous fresh lobster roll at the top of
decided to use this seafood shack as it had good value oysters and a large range of other stuff too!The owners are very helpful and recommended using there seating as they had a thing up to help prevent being mugged for food by a seagull (which happened to me another day when one bowled into my head and took the icecream out of my hand and flew off!!!)We had a selection of really good priced oysters, as they had a couple of different kinds, some mixed seafood and some prawns and they were all great! So good in fact we went back the following day for more, and very very surprisingly, the owner recognised us and said, "back for more", very impressive as they must get so busy! Just on that I'd recommend this placeCan't wait to go back to Brighton if only for this alone! So glad you decided to visit us & you were so impressed with what we had to offer. Please tell your friends if they are our way. We look forward , one day to seeing you again Regards Cliff
