My birthday celebration dinner with friends so eagerly awaited! In no way were we disappointed. Our second memorable dinner visit to Saca-Rolhas Taberna in three years. A classical Azorean restaurant, very popular with local island residents offering a fabulous offering of Sao Miguel legendary dishes. Not the place to come for British holiday food!Understandably a fish biased menu but with meat and vegetarian options. Our starter selection of clams bulhao pato style. Very generous portions and nicely cooked. We had a white Pico wine accompaniment. Fabulous! Main course of Bacalhau cod- polvo octopus Laguarera classical Azorean dish. Heavy on the garlic served with tomato rice side dish. Fantastic, beautifully cooked and presentation. Still the best I have personally tasted. Washed down with Cartuxa Reservas red wine from Alentejo. What a combination! No desserts taken as main course portions were generous to say the least! Espresso coffee to finish.Service was very attentive throughout making it a good visit to this lovely, loud and vibrant Azorean establishment. Prices still competitive on the upper scale but quality more than compensates. Definitely recommended and we will return in the future for sure.

Stopped in for lunch. The staff were friendly, attentive and eager to please. We started with the Octopus Salad, had the whole grilled fish , a glass of wine and a cold beer, finished with some tasty sweets. Everything was done perfectly. A perfect lunch.

In this wonderful location, overlooking the sea and looking at the wonderful North coast of the island of São Miguel from Ribeira Grande, we have created for you a unique regional menu, such as the Fish Stew made inside the Volcano.
Good location, dining on a balcony with a sea view. Short menu, albeit not remarkable. We ordered the 4-piece sample appetizer(4Q), which turned to be olives, quality eggs, a pork pate and guess whatâtiny packs of butter!!! Since when is butter an appetizer? â Bread was extra 2Euros!!! We ordered the 3-fish special for two. It was suppose to be served with hollandaise sauce but, no, we were served melted butter. While the fish were grilled well, the side vegs was the iceberg lettuce that I detest (useless veg without nutrients) and the a bowl of boiled potatoes. For the price, even for the Azores, we could have a better dinner elsewhere. In shortâ-NOT recommended.Hello @globetrottingYankee! We value every review and we thank you for sharing your opinion. We're happy the fish was great, we naturally want to give every customer the best possible experience but we understand that we cannot satisfy everyone. For instance, we would like to have known that you detested that specific lettuce, we would have changed it for something more of your preference. Please visit us again so that we can show you why we have so many positive reviews.

So the chef does everything, waits the table, prepares the meal, brings drinks, collect payment and does the dishes. The food is excellent, we went with eight people and somehow he delivered eight plates prepared exactly as ordered ! My only concern would be on a busy night that he may get behind on orders. Steaks and tuna were perfect

We chose Big21 based on Reviews. We were not Disappointed!! All of the food is expertly prepared and delicious. The Tuna was as others described, Amazing. The servers treat you like friends of the family. Our first visit (We visited twice) one person in our party chose steak, the server told him that it wasn't a good choice that night. But on our second visit we inquired, and we were assured that it would be good that night. And it was. Prices are very reasonable, and you won't leave hungry. I highly recommend Big21 and suggest that reservations. They always seem busy and full.

The food was a bit hit-miss for us, but I'm chalking that up to just a difference in preference. Service was TOP NOTCH and we really felt taken care of the entire evening. My family and I came in around 7pm without a reservation, but they seated us in no time. Our waiter was phenomenal and was really a highlight of the visit. We had the grilled limpets, grilled whole squid, and the blood sausage/grilled pineapple. The blood sausage was ... not our favorite. It was really, really crispy on the outside and it just wasn't our thing. The squid, however, was amazing. The limpets were also very good - but my mom and sister liked the one from A Tasca better. We finished the meal with a pineapple mousse, which was recommended by our waiter. I loved it.

Our hotel recommendations here bang on! This restaurant exceeded our expectations. We had the best octopus dishes ever. The fish was tender and well prepared. The seafood soup was excellent and the shrimp was so flavourful. Our server was very attentive and the view of the ocean from the balcony was beautiful. We went again the next day and had the same wonderful experience. What a pleasure to read your review @Adkfamily! It represents our everyday work to offer a great experience to our customers. We hope we can have your visit again. Best regards
