The restaurant was recommended by our Hotel as an excellent fish restaurant. So we went there to have dinner. The location looked nice. However, the staff were neither friendly nor welcoming. Unfriendly, rushed service at first, then a long wait. The plates were prepared next to the waiting area for arriving guests. Our main plate was the "Misto di Pesce". There was not a lot of fish on the plate and we could taste the charcoal. For nothing special and a bad service we paid a lot of money. We will never return.

Despite the name "grotto" it is a fine restaurant with fine food and great location, you will also enjoy summer lunches and dinners under the trees outside. The food is simple and tasty, Italian kitchen, every dish is perfect and the most part of them are real milestones like Casoncelli or grilled baby squids, tagliolini with white truffle or beef brasato with polenta. The service is good and the guys are also friendly and funny. Wine list is good, prices are correct compared to other Swiss overrated retaurants...

First, this restaurant is needlessly pretentious. Second, the two other guests at my table ordered the tasting menu. I did not like all the options on the tasting menu, so I told the waiter, that I would order the same amount of courses and if he could please pair wine as well. He agreed. That is not what happened. While I was the only female at the table, I was given one glass of wine and treated with an air of snotty contempt. The food was just ho hum. It was not creative. It was mathematical in its presentation. Safe but what you can get at a multitude of other restaurants. I will say that the view is wonderful. But for almost $700 for 3 people, save your money. It is totally not worth it. The ambience is beautiful, rustic yet elegant; in the good season you can eat al fresco and enjoy not just the sunshine but also great views on the lake and the surrounding mountains. The food is superb: whether you choose meat (great beef, with certification of origin of a detail you can find only in Switzerland), or fish (we had a fantastic tagliata of tuna), or seafood, or vegetables, you can't go wrong. Kind and professional service, vast choice of wines. I'll be back!

Amici e colleghi a pranzo in una bella giornata di maggio. Pizza molto buona (anche se cara) ma servizio scadente, inesistente. Abbiamo atteso per ricevere i menu, abbiamo atteso per poter ordinare, abbiamo atteso la pizza oltre mezz'ora e NON c'era gente nel ristorante ....... Hanno anche portato una coca cola senza stappare la bottiglia !Peccato!

New restaurant in the palazzo Mantegazzi. Interior is contemporary: Hi tech lifts, glass, transparent plastic chairs and white walls.Vitello tonnato was tasty and tender but the steak was a little bit overdone (surely not medium).I think it's a good place to have a lunch with bossiness part not a family dinner.Dear Serge G,thanks a lot for your beautiful review.We hope to see you soon in our Restaurant!

I had very good expirience with this establishment. Absolutely amaizing dinner with respect to food, its serving, service and overall atmosphere. Deliciouis food with impeccable souses, and fresh ingridiends. Portions were not too big not too small, just right. Good wine list and the wine itself was great. I would reccomend any one for an upscale dinner with not exessive spending. Well done!Dear friend,thank you very much for your review. Decided to celebrate our birthday at Santabbondio. the place is just amazing and really exceptional. Both inside and outside the atmosphere is just sublime. The food is very creative, well presented and of great taste. The waiter was also fantastic, very knowledgeable and of great help with his advice. A memorable place to go and eat. Dinner for 17 people, excellent dishes, very friendly, helpful and dedicated staff. We started off with some delicious pappardelle ai funghi porcini (noodles with porcini mushroom) and trofie al pesto. After that, most of us ate beef filet with pepper sauce. As a dessert we had a fresh made mille-feuille with cream, strawberries and forest fruits... never had better! I can only recommend this place to anyone, who truly loves Italian cuisine!
