We were staying in nearby Sanquhar and a local recommended this place. The waitress could not have been more attentive and accommodating. We had specialist dietary needs but menu offered considerable choice (gf: fish and chips...hurrah!) and food was scoffed by all. 3 lots of fish and chips, the fish curry and sea bass, all very tasty but actually it was the really lovely service that made the difference.. They had a big group in their suite too and still attentive. Simple pub nosh served well, would def recommend.

Family run Tearoom situated on the crossroads in Penpont. Seating inside and out, dog friendly. Bookings can be made for groups, monthly supper nights and special events. We stock locally made crafts and jewelery. Hours of opening are 9am till 4pm Monday
Staff seemed to be wandering about rather than paying any attention to serving customers.I had to ask for a menu as the menu on the tables was just for drinks. The drink I wanted wasnât available. The coffee I was served with milk was in a dirty mug.The food was disappointing. The place is for sale - so maybe no one cares? Wait until itâs sold before going. It is such a shame that your experience of our village tearoom was so poor.It was taken over by myself in April this year (2018) hopefully if you were ever to return you will find a clean shop and friendly staff. As the photos were posted by yourself I'm unable to have them removed and they cast somewhat of a sour on what is now a thriving clean and friendly business.Debbie Maxwell owner of Penpont Tearoom since April 2018

We called in this afternoon for some food after a day out with our three grandchildren! We thoroughly enjoyed our various choices, which were served by a very pleasant lady, who went out of her way to accommodate our requirements. The bill was very reasonable for five of us. Shop was busy while we were there with people buying ice cream, which looked very tasty! Will try it next time!Very clean, which is always good, parking was easy.Would highly recommend!

Had dinner here one night while staying at a local farm. The food was good but not exceptional - mushroom souffle, grilled sea bass well presented. What made it really pleasant was the feeling of stepping back in time to the era when this was a hunting lodge. We enjoyed drinks first in a lounge overlooking the lovely gardens and choosing our selections from the menu before moving to the summery dining room, also with a good view of the garden. Service was generally good though some servers seemed less experienced and uncertain.

Lovely place to stay, very welcoming with dogs, very clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly, couldn't have asked for more. Our only criticism is that dogs should be kept on lead in communal areas as our dog gets scared when other dogs approach her in small spaces and so we couldn't have her with us while enjoying drinks and snacks.Lovely surrounding areas for walks. Food was good quality and plentiful. Recommend the early evening food menu. Would definitely visit here again!

Thomas Tosh is a great place for a quick break, brunch or lunch. We've fairtrade tea, coffee, delicious cakes and scones baked on the premises, and a changing lunch menu at very reasonable prices. We also work hard to cater for all dietary needs.
Needed lunch whilst driving through Thornhill (my good lady was getting rather fractious!) and spotted reference to this place after a quick search on my phone, otherwise I would never have come across it. What a serendipitous find! A light & airy building with a great ambience; artwork on the walls; an upmarket gift shop; good food and some great staff (and what I took to be the friendly owner who said cherrio on our way out). Very impressed all round.
