Had heard mixed reviews so decided to try for ourselves, we were all very hungry and looking forward to a meal. When we arrived it wssnt very busy. We sat at a table and waited...and waited. Nobody acknowledged us so we asked for a menu at the bar. There wasnt a huge choice on the menu but we chose and waited...and waited. Decided to order at the bar to be told somebody would come to the table, but again waited and waited. The waitresses kept walking past but never looked our way, so we left. So never got to try the food so cant rate it but service is dismal.

Having read some articles in local media we decided to visit whilst waiting on our car to be serviced. What a surprise, truly full marks on all counts. The building itself has been renovated sympathetically with a lot of the features of the church still prominent. It is bright airy & welcoming as are the staff. We had the Scottish breakfast & coffee & it is probably one of the best we have had eating out. The ingredients were all top quality & cooked to perfection all at a very affordable price. What a great place for young people with special needs to learn about hospitality. You could see that their mentors really had a vested interest in teaching them. It is obvious that it is well supported by the community & a lot of surrounding communities could gain from having something similar. We will definitely be back - maybe afternoon tea next time!

Called in here looking for food but it was a Sunday do we were advised to try the new Italian down the road, very good advice by the way. Very pleasant bar staff nicely decorated and good range of drinks with various offers on cocktails etc. Entertainment on on different nights. Will have to come back to try the food

Have stayed at the Cressfield several times while visiting friends in Ecclefechan. Lovely hotel in a picturesque setting, excellent breakfast with a good choice , the owner Nigel is friendly and makes you feel at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning.

Our tour operator stopped here for half an hour while going from London to Glasgow. A good place to have coffee and nice sandwich to eat and relax for some time. Good service. Clean place.

Truly awful. Hopelessly disorganised.Slowest ever service.Food not bad but didn't warrant the one hour 20 minute wait.It wasn't exactly complicated cuisine. The bar next door was full of rowdy drunks. Are you serious, all our checks are time stamped and we would consider 20 minutes a long time, as for the bar being full of rowdy drunks, we do have clientele than like to laugh and enjoy themselves but rowdy drunks, most are self employed local businessmen and we do not attract the local youth. We do occasionally get a noisy wedding party in the bar, but we cant put people out for celebrating.

Great pub just opposite the Gateway Village shopping centre. Lovely day we walked down from Smiths Hotel for a couple of drinks before my wedding. 6 of us there, sitting outdoors having our first drink, then the guys went inside for a couple of drinks and pool competition. Lovely service, good prices, nice and tidy.

We stopped here for breakfast en route to Scotland and it was everything we hoped it would be. Traditionally Scottish, good food served fairly quickly, child friendly and friendly, helpful staff. Would thoroughly recommend and would definitely stop again if we are in the area.
