We chose this restaurant after reading many good reviews, so perhaps our expectations were too high.It is very nice inside, quite quirky with a warm and cosy feel. The staff were a mixed experience; the first man we spoke to seemed friendly, but our waitress seemed rather distant and uninterested. The main disappointment really though was the food; there was nothing bad about it as such, but it wasn't particularly good, just rather average. All in all it was an expensive meal that didn't live up to expectations.
The founder of the famous Jomfruin in Reykjavik Jakop, has opened a new small restaurant in Hveragerdi, offering his specialities from the Danish cusine of small dishes, snaps and hospitality. For lunch we had herring marinated in dill, the Vienna Snitzel and the famous Plaice on rie bread. All cooked to perfection and introduced with the caring touch of the owner him self and his staff. You will find hamburgers on the menu aswell and the pork belly crust is the best you will find north of the Alps. The comback of Jakop and his crew is great news to all Danish cusine lowers and hopefully they will carry on as before. Only a 40 Km drive from Reykjavik but worth every meter, I would walk if I had to.

Truly a hidden gem in the South Coast. Pictures and videos do not do justice to the magic of this place. We were a big wedding group and Andri made sure our arrangements went smoothly and that we have a wonderful viking experience with hands on instruction on axe and arrows as well as sharing in history. Having axe throwing and archery activities outside during sunset will be a favorite memory here. he even let us toast some marshmallows on fire outside. Upon entering, I felt transported back into time, with the lighting and music hauntingly beautiful. The entire ambiance is unlike any other. Here you can enjoy delicious meals with vegan options available. For the brave, they also offer fermented shark ! A must see in Iceland for travelers, also, HIGHLY recommended for events like weddings and corporate gatherings! **They are active on instagram, be sure to check their page out for current videos and picturesHi Betty,Thank you so much for these incredibly kind and generous words. You guys were absolutely amazing guests and we are truly happy to have met you guys. You will always be welcome here at Ingólfsskáli!Thank you again and until next time...

In the pleasant village of Hveragerdi this cafe and bistro incorporates wood furniture, antiques and vintage photos. Meals are based on fresh local ingredients, especially skyr (Icelandic yoghurt), with local and international dishes. The cakes are fresh and served as large portions and, upon request, with a generous amount of whipped cream. Excellent coffee. Friendly and efficient service. Wifi works well. Come early or book in advance during high season. Across the street via the small park there is access to a peaceful foss, a walking path and a beautiful waterfall.

If I am being honest we only ate here at the recommendation of a restaurant nearer our hotel that was full because of a large group, but wow what a recommendation. A fantastic location overlooking the river and the hillside and easily the best food we had on our trip. My lamb part of which had been cooked for 24hrs In the hot spring was simply amazing very tender and full of flavour. The slow cooked chocolate cake with whisky caramel sauce was equally good. Only small and not the cheapest, but where in Iceland is? Probably need to book if your traveling peak season. We walked up the path by the river from the main town only about 5/8 minutes and a lovely way to start the evening
