If you happen to be in Fredensborg on a Sunday and are looking for a place to have dinner, this is it! Remember that the more famous Store Kro is closed then so this is definetely the best option. The view is wonderful, if the weather permits, sit right by Denmarks second largest lake. Even from inside the view is good, and then you can take in the old and charming building. The food was very good, and quite reasonably priced. They close in the autumn and winter but do have special arrangements like the ultimate danish experience - the Julefrokost (or Christmas lunch if you like). The people tending to you are very nice and I can only say - go there if you are in the vicinity!!

We went to this restaurant for lunch during a whole day excursion. Everything was well prepared. The waiters very friendly and helping. There was a buffet with different local dishes. The guide had explained to us that the menu was based on Christmas Day pork, a recipe that makes the skin so crusty, there is always a fighting among the family members, who will get the most of it! And, believe me, it was worth of its fame! Besides this, there was a lot of fish: Smoked salmon, herrings and sole. Rye bread with butter is always the base for an open sandwich in Scandinavia. A variety of excellent salads and dips. The dessert was excellent. 2 big cakes disappeared in seconds, as people couldn't stop taking more and more. The restaurant is simple but with a relaxing warm atmosphere. There is an outside seating with big umbrellas surrounded by big beautiful trees.

The front of the establishment has been able to keep up the apperances of an old inn, You feel somehow transported back in time, only to discover that some modern tings has found its way into the decor and furnishing, overall a nice blend You also get the feeling that the staff actually have a formal training, in stead of a bunch of inexpensive teenagers. The menu was short, but interesting, I ordered the steak, and it was very good. A nice selection of wines and a funny dessert, jello, sorbet, and cake all based on carrots. But somehow it worked. I will return one day

This is a small local place close to the castle serving honest danish food in HUGE portions. It is a small young staff but they are doing a good job. Limited number of dishes and the winelist is not long but it is worth visiting
