A traditional warm and friendly rustic pub in the heart of the Kent countryside that oozes in character with its exposed wood beams, hanging hops, log burner & inglenook fireplace, The George, as it is affectionately known, started life as a farm building
Came across The George list on KentLive Top 100 restaurants and wasn't disappointed with the Roast Chicken looking exactly like the picture in the review, which is always a good start! Sunday lunch time selection at 14:30pm was extensive offering various meat, fish, chicken and vegetarian dishes alongside the three traditional roasts with only the Lamb finished for the day due to a large party. Similarly, a good selection of starters and desserts utilising lots of locally sourced Kent produce including their own livestock. Service was polite, efficient and at times friendly depending on the staff member. We enjoyed the Field Mushrooms with Stilton, Roast Chicken and Roast Beef that was pink but melted in the mouth, Ginger Pudding and locally sourced Ice Cream; portion sizes are big with all vegetables cooked well. No issues with asking for Stuffing with my Beef or extra Gravy! Just over £60 for three people with a large White Wine, Wine Spritzer and fruit juice. Most main courses were between £15 - £17 offering excellent value when considering costs, quality and quantity. A nice new find courtesy of KentLife and definitely a venue we will be returning to for quality home cooked fare.

The Honest Miller is located in the beautiful village of brook, it has fantastic views of the downs which you can enjoy from our lovely Beer garden, while the kids play on our newly installed play area. Inside in the winter we have a cosy log fire and a g
I booked this pub due to location and also when I phoned up the owner seemed really friendly and accommodating. The pub itself is undergoing some refurbishments but that didnât put us off.The menu was short and sweet but everything on it was freshly cooked! There were also some gluten free options for myself. We were very happy with our meals, they were cooked to perfection and very tasty! The portions were huge and reasonably priced too! There was a lovely little high chair also for the baby. This is a great friendly family pub. With a lovely outdoor area also. The only downside was no baby changing area but I presume this is something that will be done in the future upon the refurbishment.

A traditional Kentish pub serving good home cooked food, daily specials, fresh fish and local suppliers.
We were staying for a few days in the area in a chain hotel so we looked for a traditional pub for sunday lunch and found the Blacksmiths arms. I have to say that our roast beef sunday lunch was without any doubt the best we have encountered. The service was first class and all the staff were friendly and helpful, a log fire just added to the ambiance. After this we came every day for the next 5 days for lunch and sampled many of the delicious meals including the steak and kidney pudding which I thought was excellent. I did have an issue with the fish pie, nothing wrong with it just that it did not suit me. I ate some of it and left the rest which was quickly spotted by Stephane who offered to get me something else. I said I would really like some biscuits and cheese. He said they did not have that on the menu and but would see what he could do. He soon returned with a huge plate of various cheeses, pickle, biscuits, butter, celery and apple and a glass of port and said this is on the house!. Now that's what I call service and attention and care of a customer. Rarely found in this age of chuck it on the table and if you dont like it nobody cares at all found in most places and certainly in the chain pubs. I can really recommend this pub and whenever we are passing in the future will take the time to visit. Very many thanks to Stephane and his staff and in particular to the lovely lady behind the bar who was so nice to us and sorry I did not get your name.

Found this place after being hugely let down by a large establishment down the road. Im so glad we found this lovley friendly place. The welcome was pleasant, we were shown to the restaurant by the girl at the bar who was very friendly. We ordered and service was very good, food was of a decent standard. We will be returning to this pub again, as we both enjoyed the food and drinks on offer!

Hidden away above the Downs between Canterbury and Ashford, the Compasses Inn is a great find, whether you are looking for A-La-Carte Cuisine, a Sunday Roast or just a couple of pints of fine Kentish Real Ale. Although proud of our restaurant and food, we
Not the first timeIâve had the pleasure of dining at the compasses , before was a business lunch this time a family affair. Again The food was incredible wellPresented and served by elegant knowledgable staff . This place is deserving of a Michellin star like the FordWich as the food is equally on par and with its own unique style . I can not fault any part ofMy meal From start to finish . Asked for A WineParing to Accompany my meal was served with a delicious Malbec that accompanied my beef to perfection . A traditional looking, privately owned pub with a large restaurant serving very, very good quality grills (with Scottish aged beef a signature menu item), seafood (fresh lobster another speciality), an expanding fresh vegetarian menu and many other meals.
On a very wet and windy Saturday evening we came for an evening meal with friends, and a very successful meal it was. The warm and friendly welcome was totally different to the horrible conditions outside and we were quickly shown to our table. There was a large selection on the menu and my wife, who is Gluten Free, hasd no difficult in finding a meal to her taste as there Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian options on the menu. The food was well-presented, very tasty and efficiently served. The portion size was more than ample and it was good value for money. The setting itself is very convivial and a very good atmosphere. I would recommend The Old Mill as a very good place to eat and drink.

For more than 400 years, an Inn or Tavern has stood on the banks of the river Stour where the Tickled Trout now stands. The Tickled Trout is typical of the distinctive Kentish architecture of the period and greets the visitor with a welcoming and unique '
Booked a table for 2.30 and arrived on time. We were immediately shown to table in front of the toilets, unfortunately every time someone entered either the ladies or the gents we could see right in to the toilets. Not really what you want to see when your tucking into your Sunday lunch. Having been seated the waitress immediately asked us for our drinks order and return some 5 minutes later to take our food order. Having placed our order we had to wait 45 minutes for our food, when the food did eventually arrive it was adequate an OK meal. Far as the pub is concerned it's looking tired, the carpets are dirty and old as is the upholstered seating and both could do with a deep clean or replacing

A multi award winning gastro pub and B&B at the foot of the Wye Downs. The Kings Head all about quality: quality of food, quality of service, and quality of environment. We strive for perfection, all the while aiming to maintain a relaxed and friendly pla
We have eaten here before and it was the obvious choice for our wedding breakfast, made even more so because of the hotel above. This is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner, or indeed breakfast, with local sourced food and drink, but a wide selection of wines from further afield. We were looked after by friendly and professional staff whose visible smiles didn't shift despite our loud enjoyment, sorry to the other diners, and the wedding balloons and very eco-unfriendly plastic table decorations which we were still picking up at breakfast, which was every bit as wonderful as dinner. We live locally and unreservedly recommend The Kings Head restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner and we can't wait to come back again soon.
