Sipping a pint of cider in the secret garden of the Nag Head in the late afternoon sun is (very close to) being perfectly happy.

Its an old world in great location in centre of town and had parking. Rooms were very comfortable and bar was nice and staff very efficient and friendly. I would certainly stay again. 4 of us had dinner here last night - and as always, the food was exccellent, the cocktails sublime and the service as outstanding.. We were given a great table and fabulously taken care of by the staff, and in particular the lovely Jay. Friends, family and I have been coming here on a fairly regular basis since it opened and we always have a superb time. In my opinion, one of the best destination eateries in the county. Be aware, if you are visiting on a weekend, expect a lively, buzzy ambience. In our case, it was perfect for a girls night out!Hi Luna, Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're so glad you always enjoy our food and service and will pass on your lovely message to Jay. We're happy you're enjoying our lively weekends as much as we do!We look forward to seeing you again!

My friends and I visited on a Sunday afternoon whilst we were at the Standon Calling Festival just up the road. Nice little pub, good car park, easy to find. Lovely staff and a nice Sunday roast too! Whacking great big Yorkshire puds! Nice simple menu. Good desserts too. Recommended if you're in the area and feeling peckish! Nice outdoor area to sit and enjoy a few beverages on a nice day!

Conveniently situated and with interesting arty decor, Sadly itâs food is not the its main attraction. It was mediocre and didnât seem freshly cooked. It is of course possible that we chose the poorest on the menu. Service was commendable and the ambiance and facilities were very pleasant. Fresh, simple food should not be difficult to provide especially in a pub with a restaurant. Iâm not sure weâd choose to eat there again.

We've recently visited the Catherine Wheel on two occasions (one on a very busy, hot Sunday, and the other on a very quiet weekday) and service and food were excellent on both days. All credit to the Manager and his very attentive staff for making this one of the best pub/restaurants that we have visited in recent times. Keep up the good work. We'll definitely be back.

Seriously relaxed dining with a family golfing centre to boot. Named after the local area on which the pub sits with a nod to historic alcoholic beverages of old. Fresh food, fine wines, local hand crafted ales from the Hertford Brewery and ethical coffee
Me and hubby always come here for the best steak in ware . Weâve not been for a while , so we thought weâd treat ourselves . We were really looking forward to a lovely steak , which are usually delicious here. Theyâve obviously changed their meat supplier, or chef, or standards. It was a let down . Tiny, thin steak, and The usually lovely sauces that always tasted so delicious, tasted like they came out of a packet . The starter was lovely , and so was the waitress, but overall we were quite disappointed. Sort it out Kings Mead, you used to be so much better than this. Hi evangelinei2014,i am very sorry to hear that the steak you had on your visit was not up to our usual standard, we take feedback like this very seriously and if told on the day we would have rectified it immediately to ensure you left happy. If anything on any future visits is not up to standard please do let a duty manager know as we can then feedback to our supplier. i am happy to hear the rest of your experience was great and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

4 of us had Sunday lunch at this gastro pub. Staff were attentive & couldn't have been more helpful. Atmosphere was inviting. We chose roast pork and lamb. Once fat was cut off pork there was very little meat left. Lamb was tender. Vegetable selection disappointing; very few carrots & courgette was hard. Roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were fine also the desserts. Nicely presented food but could have been a slightly larger portion of meat.Overall, a little disappointing and a little overpriced at £21.50 for two courses. Sadly, I doubt if I would eat there again based on today's experience. However, the lovely staff helped to make up for the disappointing meal.Hi James,We appreciate you taking the time to review your visit even though it was slightly mixed. The comments in relation to your main course have been shared with our kitchen. In terms of price, we do compare favourably with other pub/restaurants in the area withall of our dishes being freshly prepared.Hopefully, you will consider a future visit.

Amico Di Amici Italian Restaurant, Stanstead Abbotts, Ware is set within the Red Lion Public House, one of the oldest buildings in the area, dating back to 1538 when it was a monastery. Come and enjoy our authentic Italian cuisine in a relaxed, welcoming
Our dentist is very near this pub / restaurant, so my wife and I have enjoyed a meal or drink here several times now and our visit this week was no exception. We had lunch here and it was very good. The service has always been very friendly and good. There is parking around the back (albeit the parking entrance and exit can be something of a 'challenge'...)Our experience of the food has never been disappointing, so we happily re-visit'...

The Candlestick Freehouse and Restaurant - A traditional Pub renowned for excellent food and a superb wine list, is located in the picturesque hamlet of West End near Essendon in Hertfordshire. Being located in such a peaceful setting allows for a relaxin
Went for a family meal having previously enjoyed the food at The Candlestick. Sadly the day we visited the chef must have been having an off day. The fish and chips were soggy and greasy, the peas dry and shrivelled. The veggie lasagne was heavy and uninspiring. It's always embarrassing leaving food on the plate, but it was just so hard to finish such a disappointing meal. I felt bad recommending it. I know The Candlestick can do much better.
