Just had a couple of nights here and what a great find. Perfect location in the middle of Windermere with off street parking. Lovely large room, big enough for a table and chairs in the window which we had our breakfast at. Staff lovely and friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Had a meal here which was very nice. Would definitely stay here again.

Family owned and run Hotel, bar and restaurant in the Centre of Bowness on Windermere, the perfect place to stay for your Lake District break, within close walking distance of Lake Windermere and everything the area has to offer.
We went for dinner on a Saturday evening, having booked a table earlier in the day.The restaurant was very busy with families and couples dining. The service was good however the staff were rushed off their feet and looked to me as though they was not enough staff to cover the bar or the restaurant. The menu was varied and reasonable priced all the food was cooked to order and plentiful and delicious. We would definitely go back again however may try lunch instead of dinner on a Saturday night.Dear Reviewer, please be aware that we no longer respond to your reviews on an individual basis. If you have been kind enough to leave some kind words about your visit we thank you very much and hope to see you again. If you have had a genuine reason to raise a concern about your time at The Angel Inn then we hope that it was dealt with by a member of staff at the time of your visit and we were able to rectify the situation. However if you are still dissatisfied with the way your situation was handled then please feel free to write to me personally by post and I will be happy to deal with your situation. Kind Regards, Liam Salisbury. Proprietor.

We were recommended to try the Watermill by friends. They have their own microbrewery on site and the beer they produce is pretty good. The food is average and the service a little disinterested despite going there on a quiet night. The menu is extensive but formulaic and the food had a slightly re-heated feel about it. Decor in the place wasn't helped by an excess of cheap Halloween themed decorations which detracted rather than enhanced the atmosphere (But there again I am no fan of Halloween so might just be me. And my wife!). If looking for a simple pub meal in the area the Eagle and Child in Staveley is way better and more atmospheric.Dear RichardVUK, we're sorry to read that you found our pub to be "average", this is very disappointing. We strive to offer great customer service so we're surprised that you found staff to be "disinterested", if this was the case, then we are truly sorry. 95% of our food is prepared and cooked freshly, some things are reheated as would be expected, such as chilli con carne and curry, which take over 3 hours to slow cook and can't be cooked to order, but the majority should taste fresh and tasty. We're sorry if you weren't satisfied with your meals. With regards to the halloween decorations, this is something we have done for over 20 years. We are a family run and family friendly pub, so we decorate in time for the children's school holidays, and also for the local story telling club which hosts a topical evening once a month. We appreciate these aren't to everyone's taste and this is why we only decorate one section of the pub (the whole of our "Smithy Bar" and the bar area in "The River bar" have no decorations). We do hope that you will visit us again and that your opinion on us being average can be improved.

I tried to book this hotel/pub for the previous night but it was full. My daughter and partner were booked in for two nights and I wanted to join them so booked a local b&b for one night but decided to stay another night, and now a room was available. I would normally stay in remote village pubs in the central or northern fells so the south Lakes near the fleshpots of Windermere was not what I would have chosen. When I first walked in just after lunch service I declared it my âvision of south Lakeland corporate tourist hell!â It was full of diners, smelled of food and was very busy. I was wrong and glad to admit it. I went back a while later to find delightful staff, a fabulous selection of doggy-themed beers brewed on the premises, and a comfortable lounge with a wood stove. I booked for the next night and the staff joined in my ruse to keep it a secret from my daughter. My allocated room was up two flights in the attic but that is good for my spaniel and my daughter was in the only other room on that landing so there were no outside movements to upscuttle the dog. The room was relatively small with a double and a single bed, but a good rate for a family room with a dog in a busy tourist area. The room is very modern but quirky. The bathroom is small but modern, the room was spotless. A very comfy double bed with plenty of storage. The telly was a reasonable size and had an adjustable mounting. However, I cracked my head five times on the beam on the side of the room as did my daughter, and her partner in theirs! I still have the lump days later. On first lifting the loo seat it came off in my hand and I had to fix it. On checkout when I reported it the staff discussed it and she saidâ oh yes, itâs always breaking! â Well fix it then! The double glazing doesnât quite keep out the noise of the busy trunk road but that wouldnât bother guests from urban areas. It did me a bit. The pub is large with viewing windows to the brewery. There are stoves in both main bars but we had to ask for the one in the bar we were eating in to be lit because it was cold, supported by other guests. The answer was it smoked a lot when first lit. Then light it earlier then! There is adequate WiFi throughout. There is a good âpub grubâ menu served quickly and with a smile, as is the beer. The food was, erm, pub grub. It is extremely dog friendly with the bar server giving treats to the dogs and there is a very quiet lane nearby to walk them. The location wouldnât be to my choice; itâs just off a busy trunk road but only a couple of miles from Windermere, and there are bus services if one wanted to use that to get back from the fleshpots in an evening. Itâs ideally situated for the south lakes and all its mass tourism fleshpots, but for me it was only 15 minutes to Ambleside and more importantly only 25 minutes to the real Valhalla of Great Langdale. My daughter, who has worked in the luxury hotel industry for 20 years, (now as a senior manager) declared herself delighted with this venue and that is praise indeed. I enjoyed my stay although the location and style wouldnât be to my usual taste. The staff deserve particular praise as does the beer. Give it a try. Dear Sir, I remember you staying with us and recall your kind comments at the time of your visit. Many thanks for also following up on this with your great review. I'm pleased you quickly changed your opinion of our Inn, we try our hardest to appeal to a broad range of clientele and we feel we have many unique selling points which make us stand out from your average Lake District tourist trap. I've fed your comments back to the staff and the owners about the service you received, and our brewer is thrilled you enjoyed the beer. We're pleased to read that your daughter and partner enjoyed their stay and we all hope to welcome yourself and them back in the future.

I had fish and chips - the fish was cooked extremely well where it just glistened as you cut into it, extremely fresh and well cooked. Hubby liked his food and the real ale was also very good. Its not clear when you go in if you order food at the bar or waitress service and as there was no menu on the table, we didn't even know if there was food available. This could be improved upon but not a big deal.My only criticism is a personal bug bear of mine - I don't like food served on boards/slates or anything else that isn't a plate.

Don't be put off by the laminated menus more often seen in chain restaurants - the food here is excellent and there are always interesting specials. If you want to sit in the main cosy bar areas you need to book. Service was friendly and welcoming.
