Decided to pop over for lunch with friends today. Lunchtime meals from the Chimney £6. Monday to Friday 12.30-2 ish.Had beef stew with 1 dumpling, Hubby had the Dogs Dinner, friends had stew and cottage/shepherds pie (not sure which)had to leave some of mine. Awesome pub. Homecooked grub at sensible prices and well worth the visit. No sign of sideshow Bob tho' :(

What a fantastic pub to have so near by. we live in Brigstock the next village and this Pub is such a bonus to us. The food is amazing the chef is very imaginative and the food is extremely tasty and of very good quality it is well presented and does taste as good as it looks. Aaron the landlord is very welcoming as are the locals and the pub is very cosy and the decor is tasteful and all very clean. The beers are well kept and they have good selection of gins and wine! The waitress that served us on both occasions the last being Monday is so friendly, chatty and helpful and very well presented. All in all a very good experience and this will be our go to pub from now on.

They say that "Thursday night is the start of the weekend".....and as my wife and I have a long weekend planned we decided to pop out for a pub meal......we wanted nothing fancy, no travelling required etc......just simply to relax.Being local we popped into the Courthouse, didn't do our usual research of reviews etc...and just chanced it !!Well there is a lesson to be learned here .....I've not been in the establishment for 25 years and I now know why.Firstly the staff were all very polite and attentive, no complaints at all....the locals were also friendly and chatty which was nice. However my wife's glass was filthy.....even I a bloke who normally doesn't pay any attention to the glass only what's in it clocked the fingerprints and lipstick stains.....ok so we continued against our better judgement and the warning signs....our order was simple "2 x Steak+Guinness Pie with Chips & Veg" £9.95 each.....simple pub grub that my wife ( being a Northern girl) appreciated. The restaurant was well layed out and actually quite nice.......it was clean etc and what you expect from an 18th Century pub. However when our food arrived we were extremely disappointed for the following reasons....- The pie ( steak, gravey, celery, carrots) was lukewarm warm at best.....actually to ge more accurate the veg and meat were still cold in the centre and the gravey luke warm - The meat was tough......so tough you couldn't actually chew it.....now this was partly due to the amount of gristle in the cuts ( expected in stewing steak) but the main problem was that the "filling" element of the pie hadn't been cooked for long enough on a low/medium heat to break the meat down to the "melt in the mouth" texture we expected - The pastry was simply shop brought "puff pastry".....it was OK ....and the norm now at a lot of pubs who can't justify a full time chef. After a long day at work we were both starving......yet we both still left over half of our meals, to me that tells it's own story......even a couple of pints of Fosters couldn't help wash it down....it's annoying that very basic food couldn't even be prepared correctly. I could have easily done a better job.We did explain to the staff that the meal was very poor and they were apologetic.....we simply won't return - especially when the Woolpack at Islip or Wheatsheaf at Titchmarsh both less than 1.5 miles away provide a totally different culinary experience and in reality neither can be faulted....Not a chance of us retuning.

Met with some friends for some drinks and to hear a live acoustic musician (Patrick Foley) and certainly not disappointed. Once again Russ and Katy have found a star performer, and our group of 8 had a really enjoyable evening. Very good prices too, will.be back again soon. Also has a quieter bar where kids are welcome til 6pm.

What a perfect stop when travelling along the A14 towards Kettering. Just a mile off the a14 nestled in a pretty village. Great welcome from landlord Simon. Fabulous centuries old building beautifully maintained. The menu was imaginative, all home cooked dishes.the service was delightful and immediate from a lovely lady whom name escapes me but has worked there for six years. Canât fault it. Food was excellent. Will be making this a pull off when travelling that route again.

The Old Friar is situated in the quaint village of Twywell in Northamptonshire. Our beautiful old Inn and massive Beer Garden with Children's play equipment is a great retreat for couples, family's & gatherings. We are well known in the area for our home
Not only does this pub hold a lot of sweet memories for me, it really knows how to do good pub grub. Came about a week ago and had a cod goujon sandwich, that comes with fruit crisps and coleslaw and I had a side of Cheesy chips. For dessert I had Eton Mess which was scrumptious. The service wasnât the quickest, the main took a while to arrive but staff were friendly and polite. Look forward to coming again :)

Been here a few times, each time the service has been lacking. The dining room is upstairs but the kitchen downstairs, with just one waitress running between and pausing for a natter downstairs. So often you're left waiting, and sometimes so is the food. They could vastly improve by having bread, olives and oils kept upstairs so they come out promptly. The food was fine, if a little cold when it arrived, but the service does not fit with the fairly hefty price tag.

This is a typical roadside pub offering fairly traditional dishes but definitely a cut above your average pub grub. Everything was very nicely presented and perfectly cooked. I had calves liver which was tender and delicious, two people had lamb shanks which were very good. Main courses come accompanied by potato and seasonal veg which were nice and crunchy. We went there for lunch, meeting friends who were coming from Cambridge and it was halfway between them and us. It worked out really well for a bit of an "off-chance". You can have a nice walk round the Titchmarsh nature reserve afterwards as well.

On a Sunday evening there was a limited choice on the menu. Two of the party had fish and chips, two had roasts (one lamb, one turkey). The fish had been overcooked and was tough. The meat in the roast dinners was thinly sliced and did not give the impression of having come from a freshly roast joint/bird. Everything had been drowned in overseasoned gravy, which was all that could be tasted. At over £20 a head for one course plus drinks, very poor value for money. The one positive was the very nice, friendly serving staff.Thank you for your review; without feedback we cannot improve on what we do at The Woolpack Inn, Islip. It is lovely to receive such positive comments about our front of house staff, thank you. I am really sorry to hear about your disappointment with the food and the menu; we will be addressing your comments and reviewing our pricing. We do hope that you will give us another chance, we look forward to seeing you soon.
