Find out what Pub restaurants to try in Sudbury. Sudbury is a historic market town in Suffolk, one of the largest counties of England in East Anglia. Sudbury itself is worth exploring on foot, a small family friendly town with a shopping area (mostly full of chain shops but with a few great local shops), and a few good bars and restaurants. Fans of art history will be pleased to discover the house of Thomas Gainsborough on the appropriately named Gainsborough Street at the bottom of Market Hill, and book lovers may be amused by the plaque at St Peter's Church which acknowledges the fact that the town was referenced in Dodie Smith's classic 101 Dalmations.

Under new management!! Ashley and Gary welcome you to the newly refurbished white horse. Taking it back to a traditional family friendly pub serving good pub food and a wide range of real ales, lagers and wines.
As visitors to Sudbury we ended up at this pub by accident. We had a great evening. Really great atmosphere and service. All four of us really enjoyed our meals. Very generous portions, well priced and great service. Really enjoyed our evening at this pub. My person comment is very clean ladies toilets. Says it all for me. Highly recommended.

UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP AND MANAGMENT Why not pop in to see what we have to currently and in the near future. We look forward to meeting you.
We were staying locally and met friends here for an early evening meal. The staff were friendly and food was good and reasonably priced. We both had the burger which were good. Interesting fixtures and lighting. Well worth a visit.

My family and I went to Riverside to celebrate my motherâs birthday. Despite arriving a least 10 minutes early for our 7:45pm booking, we were told the table wasnât ready but to wait in the bar area. Which is fine, if only for a short wait. 30 minutes later and a round drinks one of the restaurant staff arrives to say âoh is everyone here, your table is waitingâ no apology for the delay or suggestion of âweâre really busy, let me take your drink order and get you some bread or something in the meantimeâ just ushered to the corner of the restaurant and left with the menu. No suggestion if there were specials or any recommendations just left us to wait again. Another 15 minutes or so go by and no service no attentive staff asking for our drink order or to see if we are okay, nothing. Two female members of staff were just standing at the bar area doing nothing, so one of our party went over to ask for drinks. Only to be told that they were âbusyâ. Another 10-15 minutes go by and finally one of the two comes over. We order drinks and some water for the table, none of which she wrote down and leaves with out asking for our food order. 5 minutes later the poor chap from the bar area, who was left to serve by himself has been told to come over with our drinks for some reason. No table water given just explained this what one of the girls told him was ordered. These two were just back at the bar doing nothing. At this point weâd been at the restaurant for an hour and had only just been given our drinks and other tables had already been served despite sitting down after us, we came to the conclusion we would continue to be ignored and decided to finish our drinks and leave. Only then did another member of the front staff come over to say âare you ready to order now?â What a joke, we explained that we had been ignored all night and their poor service had ruined our evening and we wanted to pay for our drink and leave. The front of house manager then became very rude and defensive explaining that they were busy because of the rain (which was bizarre) and that a larger table had taken priority over us, just what you want to hear from service staff. We responded that the rain should have no effect on the staffs ability to serve its customers and that surely you should serve each table in order of booking rather than just ignoring tables. The front of house manager then retorted that she can only apologise so many times, which to my count was only twice, one of which was in this sentence the other was rather aggressive âsorry but we are busy!â. She then told us that she wasnât going to say any more before going into another tirade pretty much turning the fault on us for not being a larger table, the restaurant for having a whole ten tables, the other customers for turning up late and the chef for being under pressure. At no point did she own up to the service staffâs behaviour and lack of interest. At this point I told her that she said she wasnât going to say any more but she kept on going, can we please just have our bill. She then left on a huff, and then another confused waitress came over to ask âdid we ask for our bill?â We paid up and were about to leave when the chef came out to see us, first thing out of his mouth was an apology and to ask what he can do to make use stay. The first time during this visit we were treated with respect and acknowledgement but alas it was too late we had already booked a table down the street. All in all 1 hour and 30 minutes wasted, no food and bad memories of Riverside. On a brighter note, just a short walk away from Riverside is Ballingdon Valley Indian, within two minutes of being in the door we were seated and had drinks and popadoms for the table. I joked if we would have eaten and had the bill in the same time we were waiting at Riverside and to my amusement we did. Excellent food and attentive service at Ballingdon Valley, and we were a late booking and they had more than ten tables! Plus it was still raining... whatever that means? Conclusion - Will not return to Riverside and never even got the try the food!

Went there last night to see a singer and I needed food! Delighted that they were serving food from the menu till 9pm. For the first time in years and a definite first for a restaurant/pub, they served home made chips. What a great detail to add to an already warm home-like feeling. On top of that, the entertai ment was great. A male and female duo that could actually sing. Although the boards described a solo act, it was a double please when the billed act was joined by a chap. Great songs. All in all, for a returning visit, it was a great choice. A diamond in the country...well done staff at the Shoulder.

A friend booked a table here although none of the group had visited before. Four of us ordered four different things and all came out perfectly. Food was hot, delicious and plentiful. However, whilst the food was fab, it was the service we received that was the star of the show. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were chatty, knowledgeable and friendly. Nice to know that there are still managers/owners out there who deliver first class service (and food) and care about what they do. This place is definitely worth a visit whatever time of day. Thanks for a good evening.

The Saracens Head is a 14th Century Coaching Inn at Newton, Suffolk, on the A134 road to Sudbury, it overlooks the Village Green has a classy interior decor and is rich in history with and abundance of original oak beams. It's a 'family run'' business with Landlady Beverley Faulkner happily overseeing the operation, her two daughters Hanna and Lisa provide an efficient waitress service and other support staff are Philip and Emily on the bar.The Menu offers a wide choice of meals to suit every palate, in addition there are special meals and desserts listed in the Bar and Dining Lounge areas. I tucked into a delicious 6oz Homemade Burger topped with cheese, portions are very generous here and everything is freshly cooked, as it's a free house there are plenty of beers to choose from including Real Ale and the wine list is well up to international standards. The Saracens Head has access for wheelchairs, is dog friendly in the Bar area, there's an enclosed summer garden for Al-fresco dining and is adjacent to the 18 hole Newton Green Gol;f Club.I had a nice lunch here and will certainly be back again in the future.

Very pleasant interior, well designed and contemporary, yet in keeping with the older age and style of the property. Owned by an old Suffolk Brewery,Nethergates, but managed for them. Emphasis on food, not expensive, yet not pub grub or pub grub prices. Staff a little lacking in their price bracket offerings and had little knowledge of their wine list...not so good with bottles in excess of £50!!However,overall very nice and worth a visit...time will no doubt improve them.Recommended.

This traditional Suffolk pub is situated on the edge of Constable Country on a minor road in the small village of Edwardstone, Suffolk. We have featured in the 'Good Beer Guide' for getting on for 20 years, and also appear in the 'Good Pub Guide'. A winne
I have not been here for several years, and just happened to be in the area one Friday lunchtime. It's so difficult to find if you want to!It's a beautiful setting with loads of outside seating, and it's own brewery and campsite. Don't expect corporate tables and grass though - everything is clean, but it's not like a soulless chain pub.I sat inside the bar (with my dog). A lovely looking bar billiards table and dart board, and a large list of available beers and ciders. Sadly I was driving so a soft drink for me.The food menu is small, but perfectly adequate - beware of multipage menus, the chances are a lot of it maybe prepared and frozen.I was also offered two specials - a beef rogan josh, and a mushroom stroganoff. I had the beef, (£10) which was absolutely delicious. A large plateful of homemade curry, with rice and a poppadom - almost more than I could manage.Well worth the money and well worth a visit.Opposite the pub is the Millenium Field, which was a lovely place to walk my dog (there are also some swings, etc for children). Make sure you clear up your mess.Hiya - thanks for the kind words. Our response is delayed as only just got control of the account. With the summer coming the Millenium Green will be prefect for a re-visit and an excuse for a cheeky pint maybe? Cheers, Mike & Jane

Having read the reviews we went to The Hare with high expectations and we were not disappointed. After a very warm welcome we sat down to eat lunch. My slow cooked skirt of beef was some of the best that I have tasted. My partner's belly of pork was equally good. The pub has a very pleasant and warm atmosphere, the staff are polite and helpful and obviously the chef and kitchen staff know what they are doing.
