The Royal Hotel is a beautiful old pub built in 1864, situated in the heart of St Arnaud. St Arnaud is a town of over 2,500 people and is a thorough fare for Adelaide, Mildura, Bendigo, Ballarat, Horsham. The pub doors reopened for the first time in close
Little towns sometimes have a big reputation for food, and St Arnaud is one of them. This looks like it has new owners (staff looked a bit lost at times) but they are all trying very hard to impress - and doing a great job in getting it right. Food was a bit slow to get to the table, but made up for it in quality. Beautiful snitz and veg, and the other meals in our group looked just as good - really good size, fresh, well presented, plenty of veg, and quite reasonably priced. Well done guys and girls - we will be back next time we are in townThank you so taking the time to review the Royal Hotel St Arnaud and that you all enjoyed your meals. We are extremely fortunate that our team has been with us since reopening over 3 years ago. We truely appreciate your feedback and hope you visit our beautiful town again in the near future.
Not far from the well-beaten trails of Central Victoria's goldfields region, a thirsty traveller will stumble across an absolute nugget -- "the Aussie pub in the scrub" sitting on the crossroads at Logan (population 15, according to Wikipedia.)It's the only building there, a 100-or-so-year-old establishment packed with an assortment of pub memorabilia and quirky contraptions like the Irish dog carrier or a pair of Japanese workboots that look suspiciously like an old pair of thongs with steel toecaps. It's what you call a pub with character -- and characters. Like Bloody Keith, the publican who's been running the show for 14 years. He'll entertain you with local legends and tall stories. Or have a serious yarn about Aussie art or veteran motorbikes. The day I dropped in, three hard-case blokes called Mallee Boy, The Gristle and a Kiwi called Rowdy were well ensconced in the tiny shoebox-sized bar. There's always room for one or two more, such is the genuine country hospitality. The beer's good and they'll whack you up a steak or a chicken parmagiana for lunch, no worries. You can stay the night in a room or pitch a tent in the paddock behind. You'll find the Logan pub on the Wimmera Highway, a couple of hours from Melbourne, in between Wedderburn and St Arnaud, just where the scrub-covered flat lands of the Mallee region begins.
