We went to the Black Swan last Saturday not knowing that it was only serving a Christmas menu and were initially a bit disappointed to hear that it was Christmas menu only. However, when the food arrived we were glad that we had gone there as it was absolutely delicious. I had the Roast Turkey and it is probably the best Christmas meal I have ever had in a pub. My wife and friends had the pork and they declared it to be superb. The desserts we had were equally as good. At £19.50 per head for the two courses we thought that it was very good value as well.

Traditional British pub set in the village of Greystoke famously known for its Tarzan connection. We have a nice selection of local beers and delicious home cooked food daily and all day on weekends, bar and restaurant meals available ,or try our new home
Myself and my partner came to the pub Friday evening. We enjoyed a few drinks, then left. We were staying near by in different accommodation. The next afternoon, we went back to the pub and asked the young girl serving us if it would be possible to have breakfast. (Breakfast seemed to only be for guests staying in the pub) The young girl politely responded that she would ask her boss.Myself and my partner took our drinks outside. We sat down and at that point another member of staff came out, and asked the owner/ landlady/ âbossâ ... âthereâs a couple at the bar wondering if they could come for breakfast tomorrow morningâ Unfortunately we were sat just behind this conversation. The own replied âthatâs very cheeky of them! No. And tell them it would be £15 if they wanted it!â The landlady proceeded to carry on this extremely rude and unpleasant conversation with two other customers/ friends of hers. To simply ASK politely if this was an option is in no way cheeky. To be spoken about, like that to other customers in clear ear shot of everybody around, in particular us, is disgusting. I have never been so aghast by such poor manners, unprofessionalism and rudeness from an owner. We spent a great deal of money in this ladyâs pub. The lack of respect for her paying customers is apparent. I would highly recommend walking half an hour to another pub, The Clickham Arms where you are greeted by a friendly owner, very polite, lovely pub with greats food and drinks. The owner then drove us back to where we were staying to save us getting a taxi. Fabulous experience in comparison to a rude, unpleasant experience at The Boot & Shoe. We will not be returning, and will endure anyone we know avoids this pub at all costs. Terrible experience, I hope this is taken on board and the comments are listened to to avoid ruining another customers experience in future. What utter rubbish! If you spend your time listening in to other peoples conversations, then please interpret these in the context they were intended. No one was cheeky and had you listened you were told the reasons why we normally only make breakfast for our paying guests. We are not disappointed that you will not be returning and we will not have to "endure" your company. We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your time with us as very many of our customers and friends do. Maybe you might try and get a life and relax a bit more and as the song goes- "Things can only get better" , Ben, manager. The wonderful, welcoming, friendly, Boot & Shoe

Recommended by the staff at Travelodge. Fabulous food at this small country pub/restaurant. Friendly staff, good quality food, very generous helpings & very reasonable prices. Ate there twice and would highly recommend.
found this little pub near where we were staying and it was definitely a gem! Excellent food, large portions and service was excellent too. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, very reasonably priced too. Only piece of feedback, we discovered after we had eaten, that you could get half portions and some of our table would have preferred that so maybe be a good idea to advertise it, we didn't see it anywhere. That said, it was excellent! Well done, if in the area, would definitely be back

Stopped by after sightseeing as glutton free food was required for one of our couples - all food was good, staff excellent, so much so that we returned 3 times - I enjoyed the flat iron steak, tasty and tender.Pie and fish and chips were enjoyed by my partner. Salads were also good. If in the area again would go back found it that good.

From the warm reception to a friendly chat as we checked out this was a warm and memorable experience and we will definitely return next time we are in the area. We were a party of 4 and straight away we were received in a friendly but professional manner and our request to change tables so our old dog could accompany us was dealt with in a trouble free manner. There are two dining areas - the area by the bar is dog friendly but the furnishings and decor were the same. All the serving staff (bar and table) were warm and friendly, patient and helpful which added to our experience. The food was great - it was lunchtime but included pork and black pudding burgers with bacon jam (juicy and delicious), devilled crab (my wife loved it) and beef burger with trimmings. The menu included stonebass, venison, king prawns etc etc. Starters looked good but the desserts were to die for (blackberry tart with ice cream, rasberry and apple crumble with clotted cream).Prices were fair given the quality and ambience - around £36 each for 2 courses including drinks.

Absolute gem of a place to eat. The best chateaubriand we've ever had, and that is a huge accolade considering our previous favourite was at our number one destination restaurant in the Italian Alps. The starter and desert were equally top quality. Well worth the drive out to this village Inn and we have already booked our next visit
