All food is home-cooked and freshley prepared using local produce. Vegetarian and special Diets are catered for. We use organic produce whenever possible.
This hotel is located over the road from the end of the main pedestrianized shopping street in Kirkwall. The breakfasts are served on hot plates, are huge and also delicious. You do your own toast but you can ask for latte, filter or cappuchino coffee as well as various teas. No croissants etc but no need as the breakfasts are great. There is also cereal and pieces of fruit/yoghurts.The staff are all lovely. We stayed in room 3 which is a king size and plenty big enough with a shower and sink with vanity unit to store toiletries etc. We also were in room 4 ( a double) which is small and has the sink is in the main bedroom. The bathroom is a shower and a toilet with nowhere to put any thing, not even a soap holder in the shower. The bistro within the hotel is good value and i would highly recommend eating here. We ate here 3 nights as it was so good. Take a look at the menu! I had slow cooked shin beef with pots and beetroot jus and crispy curly Kale as well as many other thnigs. All delicious! The other hotels in Kirkwall looked decidedly yukky.

This bar is located in the outskirt of the old town, in a narrow passsage together with The Albert Hotel. They advertised they have the best selection of cask beer and Orkney Whiskey. We were tempted to enter and simply enjoyed a local beer and a local whiskey. The service was quick and friendly and we enjoyed our refreshing time at Bothy Bar.

After having an enjoyable evening meal in the St Ola during our last visit to Orkney in May, we opted for a lunch on this visit.Nothing has changed, a nicely varied menu, reasonable prices, a pleasant dining area, good quick friendly service and an enjoyable lunch.Recommended

Welcome to the Royal Hotel, Stromness where traditional island hospitality extends across our rooms, food and bar service. Open year round from early to late, the Royal provides the perfect local base for business or holiday stays in Stromness.
Stopped in here for lunch at the bar in the back. Looked like it had recently been renovated, very nicely decorated. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Service was good. Would definitely recommend. Many thanks for your recommendation. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our food in the recently re-decorated Hudson Lounge.

Firstly it is important for any new visitors trying to book or visit Helgi's to know that we are an over 18's only bar. That includes throughout the building and at all times. Helgi's is a small cosy pub overlooking the harbour. We serve good pub food of
Easily the best burger menu in town at present. Good flavours and good service but just a few small things could have made for an amazing lunch. The burgers could do with more seasoning and to be seared better. Mine was cooked through but barely had any colour on it. Colour equals flavour when it comes to meat. It was lacking a side salad and served on a cold piece of slate rather than a warm one or plate. Cold crockery is unforgivable in the restaurant trade. Again, the burgers were tasty but they could have been great with these few details sorted.

Situated right on the harbour side of Stromness.
On a day trip to the Orkney Islands it was a stop in Stromness for lunch, and the Ferry Inn was close to where our coach parked. It was very pleasant inside and service was very prompt they are obviously used to people on day trips coming in. The food came very quickly but was very tasty and we also had time for dessert, and it still gave us time to have a stroll around Stromness afterwardsThank you for this super review about our lunchtime service. This is exactly what we aim to do for those guests visiting on coach tours. It is good to hear that you enjoyed our food and still had time for a walk about Stromness.
