We wanted to see The Square in Monroe and in doing that we noticed several people sitting at tables outside a interesting looking place! It was around lunch time so we decided to check it out! We were greeted immediately and even though they were very busy (which speaks for itself) we were seated within a few minutes. Our waiter, Justin, was so friendly and gave us a little background about Baumgartner's...Wisconsin's oldest cheese store (but is now a tavern and specialty food store as well). The decor was quite colorful as well as interesting! We all noticed the money on the ceiling which, of course, aroused our curiosity. Justin told us that all donations were wrapped in quarters and a tack was attached..then the waiter would toss it up, hoping it would stick! With each successful "stick" a bell rung letting everyone know! We were in...and Justin "nailed" his throws! The best part is that once a year all of the money is taken down and donated to a local charity! Now about the food...I had a bowl of the best lentil soup I've ever tasted and everyone else had sandwiches that they said were wonderful! We also bought some locally brewed beers and a jar of Slimm & Nunne sweet and nicely hot mustard... also made in Wisconsin and so yummy! This place is a MUST DO in Monroe!

Loved, loved, loved it here. We sat outside and it was a beautiful day there.Comfortable seating, a nice, single cheese plate comes with each tasting. I liked that they had a selection of dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines and were generous with the samples.Itâs a great place to enjoy with friends on a sunny afternoon.
Stopped by because the outside looked amazing. Inside just as beautiful. Decor was five for sure. Sadly the service was desperately lacking and unwelcoming and rude. I was so disappointed as I love finding local bars because of the vibe. We stopped for drinks and food but never made it past the appetizer. We had to play guess which appetizer you didn't run out of yesterday with the bartender. The simple fact that 3 adults ordered 3 beers and received 2 blows my mind. We sat at a table and the cheese curds were slide down the bar for us to come up and get despite the fact there were only 3 other people in the entire place. I spoke to the bartender after the tab was paid he acted as if my comments were irrelevant and never apologized.
I had the Roxie burger minus onion straws. Sooo many flavors all mixed together. Burger seasoned very nicely. Cheese curds are excellent. J had prime rib sandwich and loved it. And who doesn't like tots?
