Traditional country pub, overlooking the village green, with open fire and large beer garden. Our menu offers pub classics, along with regularly changing "specials". A good selection of locally brewed real ales and a choice of wines by the glass and bottl
New Years Eve one night in the late 1970s. Strains of Jeff Beck echoing around the small function room. A cheeky shandy for a 16 year old. Hazy disco lights piercing the smoke filled room. Sweaty bodies jumping up and down.Fast forward 40 years and time for Sunday lunch with strains of Play that Funky Music by Wild Cherry (1976) playing through the old wifi a nod to yesteryear. Lots has happened in those intervening decades, but the Buck is beautifully stuck somewhere between 1974 and 1981. Still the same warm welcome. Banter in the bar with the locals. Excellent simple well cooked food. Heaven.Vicky and Tony have just celebrated 5 years in charge and the card from the local cricket club say much about the high esteem they hold V and T and their community minded way of doing business. Excellent. My fish and chips were exceptionally well cooked. Flakey cod. Batter that was crispy with no hint of fat. Mushy peas that passed the test. And great value all served with a smile.A great find, worth the detour off the Masham to Bedale road. Some things in life don't change. The Buck is one constant in a sea of political, social and economic turmoil. An oasis far away from Trump, Boris and Brexit. Go and enjoy life as it should be.I'll be back. Thanks for this great review. I think you have summed up exactly the ambience we strive to achieve here at The Buck, so good to hear that it appears to be working! I will pass on your positive feedback about the food to the kitchen team. Great to hear that you will be back, and thanks for recommending us to others. Rest assured that we will keep things "just the way they are" (to paraphrase Barry White!)

A lovely sunny friday after a walk round HackFall decided on our way home to have a drink and sit out overlooking the river. The pub was steady and several members of staff were around,No warm greeting or any other type for that matter. We were served by an older man behind the bar who didn't seem to want to be there. We ordered a pint and as I was unsure what to have said I would like to try the same first before deciding. No offer of a taster so tried the pulled pint and then ordered half of the same.Enjoyed the drink and view but was disappointed with the welcome and having since looked on trip advisor see that we are not the only ones who noticed his manner.

Recently refurbished charming country pub serving everything from real ales to fine wines. Diners can choose from pub classics with a twist, daily specials and Chef's own signature dishes, exactingly cooked and served by a friendly front-of-house team. A
We revisited this pub when staying nearby because we so enjoyed the food the last time we visited the area. We were not disappointed this time either.

Liked the seasonal specials on the updated menu with the lamb fillet and asparagus particularly good. Food beautifully cooked. Nicely furnished but the place lacks a bit of atmosphere and was only half full on a Saturday night, yet bizarrely when I booked I was told they only had tables available at certain times.I am glad you enjoyed your meal and the surroundings. We try to spread tables out so people aren't rushed and can enjoy their evening. The Asparagus has been well received and hopefully you will return again soon ?Many thanks for your kind comments.Steve

We booked ahead for dinner in the restaurant as we were arriving that afternoon. Staff were friendly and the food was really nice. We then booked for Sunday lunch the next day in the bar as we wanted to bring our dog along. Again staff and food lovely. Iâd highly recommend as a place to eat if you are in the area.

We visited on a Saturday night during our recent stay just outside Bedale and were made to feel very welcome. Great food, quick service and very reasonably priced. They were very busy and we were very grateful that they managed to squeeze us in! Would recommend booking ahead! Will definitely re-visit if were are in the area again!

Having visited the next door Black Sheep tap and having enjoyed a good visit we were very disappointed at our visit here. There were four staff either serving or looking after the tables and not one smiled once. The locals who came in were very loud and obnoxious and this was a Saturday afternoon but the staff cannot be blamed for that but allowed these people to be loud and make the atmopshere very unwelcoming especially when thei average age was 50 plus !We can only praise the beer whihc was excellently kept for the one we had but obviously we did not stay for a second !Maybe picked a bad day !
