Visited with family to celebrate my 60th Birthday. Booked in advanced and my Daughter was allowed to dress the table with balloons etc. Fabulous food and a good menu to cover all tastes. We had starters which included, Prawn Cocktail, Garlic Mushrooms, Trio of fried cheese and Pork Belly. Mains included, Beef Pie, Foresters Chicken, Cajun Chicken, Lamb Meatballs, Thai Green curry, Steak and a child's fish finger meal. Everyone had their meals served at the same time and were piping hot. The waitress was very attentive when serving and also took drink orders. The bottles of wine were keenly priced and were excellent. Bar service was quick and efficient. Very enjoyable night in a very relaxed cosy atmosphere. This was an excellent place and will certainly book again.

Called in for a spot of lunch. Welcoming landlady and good ale (Black Sheep). We only wanted a sandwich and we were offered to have the gammon instead of boiled ham. The gammon was very good but the sandwich was let down by thick supermarket bread. The chips were home made which is a pleasant change from the usual frozen rubbish you are expected to eat almost everywhere.

Called in for lunch on market day. Good food. I had a brunch and husband had steak baguette with chips. Good portions. Only improvement for us would have been handcut homemade chips.☺Good tables sizes and not sat on top of one another.Good value for money.

The Hippodrome is a large pub in Market Drayton - this was our first Weathersoon Pub and is in an old Cinema/Bingo hall. The service was OK, the meals were OK, the beers good but we were a bit underwhelmed. Nothing bad to say really, but nothing outstanding either.

A really strange location for a Thai restaurant, inside an uninspiring village pub! However, with Thai beer available, menu perused and selections made, we were seated in restaurant with one other couple and food arrived. It was of a very good quality, flavoursome and authentic. We would definitely come again!

Very disappointed this evening, booked for my family to come here for a roast. The young waitress with dark hair that we had seemed very dismissive and seemed to be giving us dirty looks for the entire time. In addition to this, a child from our group went up to get his roast with the rest of us. He was told really harshly that the sausages were for the adult carvery only unless we paid £1 -£1.50extra. The woman serving the carvery was very abrupt and how she spoke to him was completely uncalled for and rude. This left him upset for the rest of the meal.It took 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken and even longer for them to arrive. The food was okay. The roasties came 15 minutes after our food by the time everyone was half way through. There was hardly anyone there and so I see no reason whatsoever why service was so slow. I have had waitressing and bar jobs in the past, and yet never encountered a set of staff so uninterested and unmotivated. All in all, not worth the money whatsoever. Staff have no hospitality skills. Will not be returning.

This is our second time for Sunday lunch here, the first visit earlier this year was OK and we gave them the benefit of doubt as they were ver6 busy due to Easter Holidays, I’m afraid this time will be the last, Food was at best veryaverage and service poor, bar staff surely and short with us when ordering, Now any good Sunday lunch will always have plenty of vegetables as these are cheap ? But one boiled potato ( still hard ) and two tiny roasts, 1 tiny parsnip, some warm carrots and bland cauliflower topped it off... meat was fine and nicely cooked but again very little of it. At £9 it’s not expensive but surely you can do better than this. Many better options in the area and would rather pay a couple of ££ more for better food and service.

Wharf Tavern

Reviewed By LichfieldBoy

Our first visit and I'm sure it won't be our last. The Wharf Tavern was incredibly busy when we arrived for Sunday lunch so thank heavens we had a reservation. They were so popular that they had extended their opening hours to cater for demand. As we were early we found a table to enjoy some beers (Butty Bach & Joules) and wine before being shown to our table by the really efficient manager who was really on the ball, quite how she managed to keep on top of all the customers was beyond me. The Sunday lunch really lived up to their reputation - a substantial quantity of lamb in a rich gravy and perfectly cooked vegetables. Really good value at only £11 per serving. All of the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. Highly recommended but do book in advance.
