Portsmouth Tavern is a genuine neighbourhood tavern in Kingston Harbour on Yonge Street, a stoneâs throw away from the former Kingston Penitentiary. Actually, itâs a bit farther than that, but you get the idea.I go there on occasion when visiting family in Kingston. The atmosphere is old-school tavern. It features regulars who frequent the establishment. There is a bar. There is parking across the street. Some of the tables are on the rickety side, but that is part of the placeâs charm. There are several televisions. I believe there is live music from time to time, but am not sure of the schedule. The menu is basic bar food from a smallish menu. The prices are modest.I ordered a club sandwich ($12) and a draft beer ($5.97). The rest of our group mostly ordered burgers. The sandwich was certainly good. It wasnât any better than other club sandwiches I have had, but was good. One thing about the Portsmouth is that in the past at least they did not take debit, only credit or cash. I didnât try to use debit this time, but assume this practice has not changed. There is an ATM in the tavern. I doubt they would make much money on the ATM machine, but accepting credit cards but not debit makes little sense because the merchant fees that credit cards charge merchants is far higher than the minimal fee on a debit transaction. For this I take off one point, since it is a policy that make little sense. That being said, if you are looking for basic bar food in a tavern atmosphere then Portsmouth Tavern is a good place to go.

Out of many types of beer and pizza dough..interesting evening as all the waitress could share was the beer would be in tomorrow. For a tap house very disappointing. The atmosphere made up for it though and she was trying...Oh yes, thank God there was live entertainment...

Was a last minute pick but a good one! Our table ordered fish and chips, french onion soup, pierogies and loaded potato soup. All arrived quickly and tasted great. Our server Lisa just made the whole experience even better! A traditional style pub with food and beer to match. Can't really go wrong ..

Great menu options and terrific service at this local, downtown pub. We loved the special burger: patty was cooked to perfection, yummy melted cheese, just crisped bacon topped with delicious caramelized onion all on a tasty sesame bun with a delightful garden salad. Super selection of craft and on-tap beer.

Irish Pub with Live Entertainment, 22 Draught beers and cider, full food menu, daily specials, courtyard patio, Kingston's long time favourite located right downtown in one of the old stones of Kingston.
Our group of 8 enjoyed lunch at this restaurant. It is much larger than you might expect. The menu has plenty to satisfy any taste. Service was a little slow. Our meals were very tasty and portions quite large. The beer last has many good offerings.

Ordered fish and chips ... fish was very good but "chips" (really common fries, not the British type we hoped for) tasted as if they had been re-heated in a microwave before adding them to our plates! Very disappointing because we expected the "real thing". Very good staff and service, but not enough to cancel out the relative poor quality of the meal. Wish it had been better.

This is my boyfriend and I's go-to place for a beer and a bite. The pasta specials are always delicious and fresh and they have quite a great selection of craft beer on tap (for him) and imported wheat beer (for me)!. The inside is beautiful and cozy as well-- such a lovely date place or place to meet up with friends for a drink. Highly recommend!!

We found this quaint pub near our hotel and enjoyed it so much we visited twice during our short stay. The gals who took care of us were friendly and provided great service. The food was really good and the Guinness went down smooth. We love Scotch Eggs and these folks make great Scotch Eggs! I wish we had a place like this near our home.

Sir John's is a cozy Scottish-Canadian Pub located in the building that was Sir John A. Macdonald's law office from 1849 to 1860. The pub takes you back in time with an affordable menu of home-cooked food inspired by Scotland but also featuring contempora
We walked in for lunch on Saturday and we didn't end up staying. It was quite busy....it is a very small place. We were hoping to have lunch but we just couldn't stay. We were hoping for a pub like atmosphere but it was noisier than MacDonalds due to the large amount of children. It was just so loud that we really couldn't even talk so we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Just not the place for us.Sorry you missed out. Saturday was part of Downtown Kingston's Feb Fest and the rink at Market Square was hosting some youth activities as part of the festival. We welcome everyone including children and sorry that the atmosphere was more bustling than was expected. Come again when we are less busy. Best regards.

We needed to have a snack instead of a full lunch and there was little on the menu that provided this. We settled on a piece of apple struedel each with ice cream. Not great but filled the small hole.Rustic atmosphere with not much privacy. Heard the entire life story of a fellow sitting across the way and down two tables. Not very mindful of people with mobility issues.
