A visit to the Bistro is the ideal way to refresh yourself after a visit to the museum or if you are simply passing by. Located in the former Habsburg officersâ mess at the heart of the Franzensfeste complex, the Bistro serves regional and seasonal dishes
Very nice cafe in historic surroundings. The staff is friendly and you can sit in the courtyard. Another huge advantage the roofs are covered in light night rods as the the Franzenfeste used to be an arms and gun powder depot for hundreds of years⦠No need to be afraid of lighting .. always good news..

"Labetula - Brew Pub" Along with the first craftbeer brewery "Monpier de Gherdëina", the first brew-pub in Val Gardena "Labetula" was opened in 2016, which offers besides their own craft beers, another fifty types of famous and interesting beerbrands from
First things first: the location just on the outskirts of Central Ortisei makes this very convenient. There is ample parking, but a leisurely walk to the pub was enjoyable and not challenging or prohibitively far.I can't speak for the quality of food, as we only stopped in for drinks, but the menu looked right up our alley had we been hungry. But the star of the show is the beer. A very nice mix of offerings, both house-made and in bottles from around the world. But lets be honest, you can get other breweries' bottles elsewhere. When at Monpier, get yourself some of the fantastic beers that Carmelo and crew are producing. As a brewer myself, I always enjoy a glimpse as to how others set up their facilities. Carmelo, despite the language barrier, was EXTREMELY gracious with his time and product, and showed us around the brewery which was a highlight of our time in Ortisei. And the beers. oh, man, the beers. They have some unique offerings, all well-executed. A particular favorite was the Edelbais, a hop-less gruit made with local wildflowers. If you're lucky enough to find they still have some of their Brett Saison, grab an armful!
