We had not been to the bull for a couple of years so made the trip put last weekend. Delighted that we did - the meal was absolutely fantastic. We had Calamari to start, followed by a couple of different pies and a bottle of wine. All of it was first rate. I'm not a huge fan of traditional British food but when it's done as well as this it can be delicious. I will be visiting again very soon.Thankyou for your lovely review! My chef now makes all the pies and specials ,making our menu a lot more interesting! Our calamari is prepared freshly and so is very light !Look forward to seeing you again !

Thought we would visit this pub as it was showing the football on tv and two of my friends live close by so we met there. My 18 year old son phoned and asked where i was and then decided to drive to meet us there too , and we sat out the back on our own to watch the game. The landlady ( did not think she was the landlady at first as she is not customer friendly at all ) came out to collect some glasses and rightly so , asked my son for some I.D, which he did not have on him . I did not see this as a problem as he did not want an alcoholic drink , just to sit with us with a coke and watch the game , and when i said this she stated that the law requires him to be over 18 with I.D after 8.30pm . I questioned this as i do not believe this is the case, and the fact that he had literally just driven himself all the way from woodford to meet us, and the way she answered me was unbelievable. I was really shocked the way she retaliated and then told him to go home and get his I.D or she would throw him out. He was obviously not going to do that having just come home from work, and so left and went home. I have since checked up on the 'Law' and it is not the case , so well done Landlady for losing 4 potential customers , as we will never go back there again and in this day and age of pubs closing at a rate of knots , i can not understand this kind of customer service. This is not a moan or a rant to get back at her terrible attitude , as she is completely the wrong type of character to take criticism on board , as one of her replies was "whatever" , but merely a warning to other possible first time customers what to expect, and i would avoid at all costs, as i and my friends will be doing in the future Well done.Hi Iâm sorry to here about your experience at The Black Lion Your correct it is not against Licencing laws that a child can be on Licencing premises acompined by an adult But we have a house rule to comply with the 2008 Licencing law objectives that we owe a duty of care to children so to show due diligence children under the age of 18 are not permitted on the premises after 8.30pm and as we operate a challenge 25 policy (signage is clearly displayed in all bars) This requires us if your son did not look 25 he has to prove with photo ID that he is 18 or over as he couldnât we have to assume his under 18 years of age The person you dealt with on the night was my manager and I have spoken with her in regards to this incident If you would like to discuss this further please contact me on 07506506939 Many thanks Laura Willis Owner

A quaint traditionally English country pub and restaurant. Set in the heart of a small community, we offer a selection of cask conditioned real ales, ciders, premium lager and quality wines.
Good pub grub and very conveniently just off the M11. Good friendly service. My only small gripe is the number of tables packed into a relatively small space.

A traditional free house serving home cooked food and real ale. The Forest Gate Inn has a homely atmosphere with a large beer garden to enjoy in the summer and a cosy wood burner to sit by in the winter. A full menu is available with weekly specials and t
We were visiting local family, so came for a bite of lunch. I had the mixed meze platter, and my uncle the meat platter. Both were ok but I felt not great value for money. We sat outside, where the picnic benches were in dire need of replacing or at least a good clean/revarnish. It was busy so I guess we were just unlucky with our choices on this occasion. Thank you for your comments. We regularly review our menu and all dips and pate's on the mixed meze are homemade excluding the meat platter. All other items are freshly home cooked such as our pie's and lasagne etc. With regard to the outside benches these are cleaned daily and varnished regularly. We hope to see you again soon to try out something else.

Four of us visited as a family celebration. The Woodbine Inn is not much to look on the outside and is located on a busy road. The welcome was friendly and the food was fresh and tasty, we had 3 courses and each was sumptuous. There is a great Vegetarian selection. The selection of ciders is amazing and we all enjoyed the different fruit ciders that we tried. The Woodbine Inn is a real gem for great food and ciders, all at great value! We will be visiting gain soon. Perhaps on a music night!Hi and thank you for taking the time to write such a fantastic review, it alway nice to hear good things! The sausage and mash plus vegetables and onion gravy were ok. My smoked mackerel salad was fine but they didn't have any olive oil for a dressing. If I had known that they didn't have a dressing I would have selected something else.Rather disappointed, but perhaps I should have checked first?

Traditional English Pub, serving Good Homemade food. The pub dates back over 500 years, is mentioned in dickens books. We have 6 real ale pumps. 2017 entry in both ' good pub guide' and 'the camra good beer guide' Live music throughout December, with an a
Upon arrival my wife asked for Bacardi. Didnât have despite already pouring the coke! I wanted roasted peanuts. None of those! This is supposed to be a pub! Food severely cremated meat and severely undercooked veg. Lamb koftas burnt to within inch of life and for £6.95 only given one each! My steak and kidney pie had enough meat but pastry burnt and veg consisting of cauliflower, green beans and leeks tasted like straight from freezer! My wife ordered hand carved ham and chips. Ham was tasteless and worst she ever eaten and so thin there was no chance it was hand carved! My wife ordered spotted dick and told staff no custard as she dairy intolerant. My wife brings her own soya custard which told staff when ordering and then after opening for her, informed us that they actually stocked it! Can you make it up! staff miserable as well. WILL NEVER RETURN!
