A belated birthday meal for the 3 of us whilst away on an Easter weeks holiday. The food was absolutely superb! I had the monkfish skewers and my husband had the beef brisket! Both so fresh and delicious. Real homemade chicken nuggets went down a treat with our 9 year old. All of us had the homemade chips (the best Iâve had in a very long time). Desserts were fab, choc brownie with ice cream, lemon crunch and 2 types of Roxby jersey ice cream. A really welcoming atmosphere made it a really enjoyable evening so much so we have booked to go back!

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. There wasnât anywhere to sit in the bar area so weâre seated in the dining room. The overall experience was ok but nothing to write home about. The food was fairly average and relatively expensive for what we had. My daughter had lasagne which was ample in portion size but covered in cheap cheese. Probably could have done with half the amount of cheese. Her chips were cold. My chicken was lovely and my chips were hot! She asked me not to complain and really I donât like to. It was quite a random experience. The service was ok but nothing outstanding. What is always excellent is the overall atmosphere with warm fires and stone walls etc. Have visited many times over the last 30 years. Will always return to this place as have fond memories over the years. Would definitely recommend for basic food and excellent bar. Donât have high expectations and you will love it. Best times visited are wintry wet or snowy days.

Many many years since I last visited and indeed stayed here. Inside is just as welcoming, and the food has certainly gone up a notch since last visit. Beautifully cooked and presented to a very high standard. Service is fine despite being advised that every dish is freshly made and only the dessert took a long time but was worth waiting for. There are no menus as everything is displayed on the blackboards around the old fireplace. Choosing, even for a non meat eater like me, was a challenge as all the dishes sound delicious and several choices of fish. Would recommend booking as even though we arrived early on a Thursday evening all the tables were reserved or taken. After a drink outside in the beer garden we were told we could have a table inside as the people who had reserved were late. Is dog friendly.

This is a large moorland Country Pub that offers dining in the pub or in the restaurant. Excellent menu and wine list, warm and friendly welcome. Four of us ate 3 delicious courses here on a midweek evening 2 bottles of wine and beer £130 staggering value
An early evening on a Tuesday in September. Hadnât been in the place in probably 25 years, but had heard some excellent comments. There were 7 of us, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Good generous tasty portions served swiftly by pleasant and efficient staff. The dining room soon became full, and the place was busy but this didnât seem to affect how quickly our meals came out. Prices were very sensible, and was all left stuffed. A popular place- we can see why!Deffo recommend.

We were stopping locally and found the Witching Post rather by accident (nearest Pub) and so glad we did , we had two visits - Friday evening (steak night free bottle of wine) and then booked Sunday Lunch , We were really pleased with our meals especially generous steaks which were cooked to perfection , Luckily we had the foresight to book up for Sunday Lunch which was equally satisfying , we certainly return and would heartily recommend to all

Caravanning nearby, we popped in for Sunday carvery as recommended to us. Sat outside on one if the hottest days of the year. Sunday lunch was roast beef or pork. Amazing large slices of meat served with mash, roasties, mushy peas etc..A proper old fashioned Sunday lunch with fabulous gravy. Reasonably priced. My little boy said the beef was the best ever...! Wish we lived nearer.. but will return next time we are in area!

Karen and Alistair have created the most amazing village pub with fabulous food. All are welcomed warmly, including dogs and children, and we love a trip to eat and also sample the great beers, wine and gin selection. Cyclists, walkers and townies(like me) are happy to chat to other guests. I have enjoyed many meals here -a Duck Race BBQ , hefty ham sandwich and chunky chips, Sunday roast lamb beef pork duck or venison all sourced locally, platters of meat and cheese. The menu is extensive and vegans are well catered for, just ask if you don't see something you fancy, Alastair will cook a gourmet dish specially for you. I hope I can still get a table here as people really should come and enjoy this gorgeous pub and restaurant.

My Friend and I spent a very enjoyable weekend at this wonderful country pub. The accommodation was very comfortable and could not be beaten. We had a lovely view from our bedroom window. The meals were absolutely delicious. The service was second to none. The location was ideal and off road parking counted for a lot with me. I will definitely revisit. My Friend is back home in Oz now but I know she would agree with my sentiments.Thank you for your lovely review Your comments are really nice and very much appreciated So pleased you both enjoyed your stay with us It was lovely meeting you both Julie

Pub is lovely but when my husband and I asked for a table for two- we were told they were fully booked quarter to 6 30 December? No problem - had a few drinks in the bar - we saw a group of 6 eat in the hour we were in the pubWe got talking to two male residents of the pub and they said we could join them for foodWhen the owner was asked if this was ok- he replied no as we were not residents and it was the 30th DecemberWe just laughed and the two residents shared their chips with usUtterly ridiculous!!!We have heard since that the owner likes to make his own rules up regarding food times?Safe to say we will not be visiting again and we will not be recommending the pub to anyone we know- just feel itâs such a shame for the area!?!

I stayed for 4 nights with a group of friends. Rooms smallish but good value and clean. Food simple hearty pub grub. Decent beer (Landlord, Theakstons, Wainwrights). Staff friendly and happy to be flexible. Our breakfast was served in the games room one day so we could watch the Wales v Australia rugby and our final bill split 6 ways efficiently and with no fuss.I would stay again without hesitation and would recommend it particularly for a group walking holiday.
