One of the things we love about this place is that (unlike so many others in the area) it opens all day everyday. Generally we pop in for a couple of drinks after a walk - we love the Somersby cider. Last Sunday six of us decided to try the Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. The meat and Yorkshire puddings were superb. We think the restaurant may have changed hands since our last meal here and we were rather surprised to see that the restaurant was not being used and all meals were being served in the bar. It was so busy that we think they could have filled both venues. Service was on the slow side but given the numbers dining this was understandable. Highly recommended.

Bar 1898 is a fabulous cocktail and grill bar, we currently serve a lunch menu an evening, grill menu and a traditional Sunday lunch.
This is my third review of this establishment. Since then business has been shut down, re-opened under new management and is now serving food again. My Wife and I go here on a regular basis. We find the atmosphere convivial and friendly. People of all ages go in here. The bar is at the other end of town away from the plastic glasses and cheap shots. You are more likely to see a group of ladies in for a bottle of wine and a natter. The music is choice and not in your face. You can have a chat with person next to you without screaming your head off. Cocktails range from about £5.50 and are fresh made. In Newcastle or Durham this is at least £8 for a basic one. If you wish you can go off menu. The staff have Difford's guide to cocktails behind the bar (3000 recipes). If they have the ingredients then they will make it for you. Food is standard fare but well cooked, freshly prepared and at the right price. The menu currently mainly consists of pizzas and burgers. There is plenty to eat. I couldn't move after mine. The Manager is planning to expand on the menu but is ensuring that it is the correct way unlike previous exponents of this premises. We haven't been for Sunday lunch yet but will get ourselves out of bed one day and go up. The reports that I have had as that it is very good and you can't eat it all. In Consett you get fed when you go out or you don't go back. If you want a raviolo on a bit of slate, go to Newcastle and pay £25. This is real food. The building itself is the old C-op bank. The safe is still there because they can't get it out. It's too big and heavy. The decor is modern retro, all bits and bobs but it fits together. The staff are very keen and always ready to have a go. My Wife and I hope that this business will continue to build on a now more solid foundation. Happy 1st birthday, roll on No.2.Thanks for you're wonderfully detailed review. Glad you enjoyed the mini "tour" of the original vault and safe, which we hope to use in the future for theme evenings and sampling sessions, also look out for our tasting "flights" that we are introducing soon.We look forward to welcoming you to our bar again very soon.Richard

Welcome to The Black Horse Monkseaton Street Food Kitchen and Bar based in the heart of Whitley Bay. Since opening our doors on the 1st December 2017, we have already established ourselves as the place to dine in the Monkseaton / Whitley Bay area among th
I was only here because the local provider of a music room was having their pub refurbished and we needed another venue to sing in. However I was very impressed with The Black Horse in many ways. The Manager? even borrowed a guitar and gave us a couple of songs and I have to say he was a very accomplished player as well as being very approachable guy. Good surroundings Good Staff and I'm sure the food will be just as good! Thanks very much Iâll be back!I have been conservative with the marks as I didn't have food but I feel confident that higher marks would have been in order had I had a meal.

Called in for lunch, lovely pub with beautiful views, staff were ok, without being over enthusiastic. My partner opted for the french burgher which she reported as being lovely, the chips certainly were judging from the ones I pinched. I opted for the liver and bacon, with mash and veg. Bacon mash and veg were good. However, the liver was, mm, whatâs the word, oh yes , awful. Warm mush, that tasted as bitter as the stuff my mother used to put on my nails to stop me biting them, atrocious, if Iâd been cooking it for my self it would have went in the bin before it got near the plate. Iâm afraid it says a lot that a chef/cook would have even contemplated serving it to a customer. The bar staff said he would mention it to the kitchen staff, wether he did or not,who knows. Pity because I like the pub., but there you go.

Me and some friends went here not along ago and we were blown away by the delicious burgers. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again when I come back to the north east. Staff were âcannyâ as well.

Just been to this pub to celebrate Motherâs Day. Already been about 6 times and enjoyed it. Today we had a table booked for 14:00 and @15:35 we still had not received our main meal. The starters arrived for he second time. The young girl assured us meals were coming soon. The food was very good but we had to ask for extra veg not nearly enough for 8. We then had sweets the people awaiting our table were ushered into the bar. Disappointing that no bone came to explain the unacceptable delay. My wife spoke to one of the staff and he knocked some items off the bill.

This is one of those restaurants in consett that everyone rants and raves about but like everyone I've been to its below average don't get me wrong it's probably the most scenic but if u can't mash potatoes and make a decent steak and ale pie then it's not the kinda place I wanna visit again HARD PASS!

Midway between the bustle of Newcastle and the history of Durham, in the heart of the Derwent Valley, The Miners Arms in Medomsley is the perfect place to relax, catch up with friends and have a great night out. With a friendly bar and a relaxing restaura
Called in for a pint as new people in the area. Had a couple in the dated mismatched furniture and thought oh well they are new tenants. WOW ! Donât ask to leave your car in their car park if you fancy a wander next door. Itâs a no go. As a anti drink driver I will not move my car after one pint. But wo betide trying to leave your car here. Flat lager and not much bon amiAvoid !!I'm sorry you had a poor experience but I'd like to clear up a couple of things.Firstly sorry for treating your initial request for leaving your car and "Going for a drink up the other pub" not very seriously as I actually thought you were joking around, once I realised you were serious you were told it was fine as long as it wasn't too long (quite reasonable imho)Secondly I think the dated decor is quite charming.Thirdly I'm treating your flat lager comment as a positive as you had 2! Must be something intriguing about it.
