There is nothing extraordinary about this property except, possibly, the slipperiness of the inside floors. They were kind of scary, actually. Our server was great, and attentive, but the food was mediocre. My omelet was dry, a burger was overcooked, etc. Probably won't return.

Stopped thinking this was Mickey's but found out had new owners and they are changing into a Sport's Bar! Limited menu for now but Mushroom Swiss burger and Chicken Bacon rollup were great! Fries were awesome crisp outside and nice center! Service was great!

We frequently stop into Rookies to watch football, drink beer and eat bar fare. Last Saturday we were at Rookies and the beer was flat, the service was horrible and the food was meh. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was made with dark chicken meat, which was wierd. I like dark chicken meat but did not like it at all in a quesadilla. Needless to say, I won't order that again. Agree with other comments that food, beverage and service here is inconsistent.... sometimes good and other times, not so much. Great place to watch football though!CARCOR2014, Thanks for the feedback. My name is Curt Gomes, I purchased Rookies 2 1/2 years ago and have been working to change the culture and perception. I'm sorry to hear that you had a subpar experience while visiting. In regards to the Beer being flat I can certainly talk with our vendors but our lines are cleaned weekly and all beer is rotated out fairly quickly, but I will certainly check our lines. As for the chicken, all of our chicken comes from the chicken breast. We do make a blackened chicken that may appear as if itâs dark meat but itâs 100% chicken breast. One of the things I have worked hard to accomplish is to purchase better products from our food vendors, this is one area we donât cut cost.Iâm 100% with you on the inconsistent part. We continue to try to hire the most qualified candidates and fully staff our restaurant each day. My wife and I frequently take shifts to assist with this but at times we have fallen short of expectations.I hope you come join us again for a meal, we appreciate the feedback and look forward to continuing to get better.Sincerely Curt Gomes

Comfort Food & Drink in Historic Valley Junction Est. 2011 Amazing food menu with full service bar and largest beer, craft cocktail, martini & wine selection in the area Voted best kept secret in Des Moines local restaurant scene.
We ate here on a recent business trip. The tomahawk pork chop was good. The service was very good and attentive. I would come back.

Great place for catching up with friends, it was a Monday night and very quiet. I had the steak salad followed by cheesecake and it was delicious.

Just passing through looking for a good place to eat...from the moment we walked in the door we felt extremely welcomed! My husband had a burger and I had the quesadilla. To our delight, both were extremely tasty...not at all like a chain sports restaurant. They have an amazing assortment of beers on tap and bottled. Great for families as well. Lots of TV's, but doesn't interfere with conversation. Our waiter was also wonderful.

Went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I seated myself at the bar since I was alone and did not want to take up a table or booth. Bartender was engrossed in her phone for a good 5 minutes before looking up and seeing me. After taking my order and serving me a drink I looked around to see how others were being served. It appeared that once orders and drinks were served, there was little effort to engage customers including following up once the food was served to ensure the orders were accurately delivered and food was cooked to their liking. I attached a photo which shows how the servers would retreat to a table where they would talk to each other and stare at their phones until they were notified to pick up food from the kitchen to bring to the customers. I travel a lot and have eaten at this chain around the country, but this location was a complete bust for service.

I lived in Dallas before this became a franchise, and was thrilled when it finally came to Des Moines. However, over the years the quality has eroded. Old Timer with cheese still a favorite, but not above average. Fries are good. Soups marginal. Chips and salsa probably the highlight. El Presidente margarita is worth it, with its own shaker.
