This restaurant is pleasantly situated next to the main square and is sandwiched between two others of similar size, also having tables and chairs out in the open.It was a beautiful hot day, unbelievable for late October, so we headed to these three places in particular, with view to eating "alfresco".We hovered round for a while looking at one, then another and finally the owner(?) of Dinner's Pub homed in on us. He was most charming and gave us a full explanation of his menus, giving the impression it was on a sort of "mix and match" basis, so we decided to give it a try.On offer at 12.50⬠was a sort of "Chicken Supreme" with a salad accompaniment and a choice of various forms of potatoes, or rice. We both chose ordinary boiled potatoes mainly because we're trying to lose weight! The service was fairly quick . . . . . . . . within about ten minutes our meals arrived, both with chips!! When I pointed out to this second waitress that we had asked for ordinary steamed potatoes for both meals she simply shrugged her shoulders. My wife then said, "Oh, it doesn't matter!" Clearly, she was angry. In fairness, other than the "faux pas", the meal was acceptable, though dear for a single course with only drinks included. At the end of the course, the waitress came and asked if we would like coffee, (part of the Meal Deal). The wife said she didn't want coffee but would like a desert instead. The menu was brought back to us but it was obvious we would have to pay three or four Euros for a sweet, despite the fact we expected it to be included. By this stage, we had both had enough and the wife said she no longer wanted a desert. The waitress left without further ado, not even asking whether I wanted coffee . . . . . . which I did!I came to pay, told the owner of our dissatisfaction to which there was no comment. He stayed outside and passed me over to the waitress who originally took our order. She apologized but made no real effort to appease the situation. Pitiful!
Where to eat Gastropub food in Cambrai: The Best Restaurants and Bars

On a miserable, drizzling evening we searched Cambrai square for a dining venue which looked appropriate for our age and intended budget. We entered and spoke to the girl at the bar in our poor French. She couldnât even muster a smile and simply called her colleague. We asked (in French) for 2 to eat please. He responded in English. We were shown to the back area which seemed to be for diners. My husbands salmon was bland and watery, my baked cheese thing was a solid block of oily cheese. It did hide a little ham too. French fries were good! Beer was good too. Beer prices expensive everywhere. Perhaps we should have anticipated the cafe food but we didnât see the establishment name until we left! Our total bill was 32 euro. We just felt the experience was blighted by very ordinary dining and unfriendly initial welcome.

We sat at a vacant table and made ourselves comfortable. The waiter asked what we wanted to drink and we ordered wine, and also asked for the menu. When asking for the menu the waiter made a big 'humph ' sigh as though it was too much trouble. He returned to us with a 'reserved' sign and casually tossed it on our table and proceeded to point to a table around the corner. It was obvious that he wanted us to move. Immediately we left the premises. We were visited Chambrai for the weekend, and found it very difficult to find somewhere suitable to eat. We liked the look and menu of this restaurant but couldn't believe the service we received. Very disappointing!

If youâre in Cambrai and feel like a real treat, try this newly refurbished restaurant, a star attraction in the family-run hotel, Le Mouton Blanc. As a group dining in a private room, a menu had been prepared for us with two choices for the starter and main courses. I had a deliciously smooth foie gras, accompanied by an onion marmalade and decorated with a small salad. Absolutely mouth-watering. I followed this with sea bass for the main course. It was perfectly cooked as were the vegetables which came in a mini oblong cauldron. The final course was une âassiette gourmandeâ, small portions of a variety of desserts. So tempting were they, that it was difficult to know where to begin. This was French cuisine at its best.

7 of use booked in for dinner at 7pm. The Bistro was empty which meant that we had the undivided attention of the staff. the service and food were very good and the atmosphere quickly changed as the place filled up. It was noticeable that main of the patrons were locals which in my book is always a good sign. The wine and local beer was good.
