We had dinner with friends at the Portuguese Fisherman this past weekend (our first time there). The have a full bar and a nice selection of wines (with reasonable prices).A nice selection of Portuguese dishes. The portion sizes are good and each dinner comes with a small salad, vegetables, potatoes and rice.A nice selection of desserts, and interesting after dinner coffees. The service was very good.

This is a very busy restaurant and catering hall. So, if you are looking for a quiet little candle lit place, this is not it. That said, it's a very nicely decorated, extremely busy restaurant. We did have reservations and were seated immediately. The host was professional and friendly. Our server also greeted us promptly and when we asked for a few minutes to decide on food options he listened and came back - in a few minutes as we asked. I would have rated the restaurant higher, but our server seemed distracted and got two of our four orders wrong. I enjoyed my Broiled Captain's Seafood Combination. I do recommend asking for their saffron rice instead of potatoes. I had the rice and it was good. My wife had the same combination with the potatoes and didn't like them - said they were just plain boiled potatoes. The seafood was good, but the shrimp was a little overdone. The portion sizes were large for the cost. Everything tasted fresh and good. The clams, mussels and shrimp are in the shell. Our friends had different dishes and said that theirs was also good. We shared a pitcher of Red Sangria. It was very good, but a bit strong with some kind of alcohol for my taste (it might have been the brandy or Triple Sec they used, but I stopped at one glass - which is just not like me). Full bar at this restaurant and reservations on busy nights is a must.I do recommend it and would go back again for good Portuguese seafood.

Most people immediately think of Newark when it comes to Portuguese food. But South River is a sleepy little central Jersey town with some nice little hidden food gems! Campozino is definitely one of them. Campozino is beautifully decorated and instantly transports you to Europe as soon as you walk in the ornate wooden door. Service is very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We decided to order a couple of apps for four of us to share but had we known how big the portions here are we wouldn't have bothered. We started with the chicken kebabs and Portuguese sausage. Both were delicious. For dinner I had the skirt steak which was delicious and cooked perfectly. My husband had the baked octopus which I sampled. It was good but it's one of those dishes I prefer grilled. We also ordered a pitcher of red and white sangria...both delicious! Prices were reasonable considering the portion sizes. The two free parking lots were very convenient. Definitely will be back soon.
