Like several other reviewers we ate lunch here on our Lido tour 'East tour'. We thought the food was great and the value was excellent. We had pre ordered and our table was ready for the 5 of us. The soup soon arrived accompanied by some delicious bread and this was followed by our choice of main. I had black scabbard fish - espada, which was delicious, my partner chose chicken skewers - a very generous portion and our guide had espetadas - an even more generous portion. The mains were accompanied by a variety of vegetables, chips, rice and salad red wine and water. There was also a choice of desserts which we all enjoyed. This was a real bargain and a proper Madeiran meal. Very much recommended.

This restaurant/snack bar is mainly frequented by locals which is usually a good sign! and probably due to its location at the bottom section of the village - most visitors and coaches seem to park at the upper level which has a much more touristy feel about it. We only came across it after deciding to take a shorter route down from the balcony walk (although I did have to walk uphill to collect the car!). We only ordered hot drinks but service was friendly and its pleasant sitting outside watching the world go by (mainly traffic!).

We always visit this restaurant on our annual visit to Madeira and we are never disappointed. We always enjoy our lunches there. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the service is efficient. The menu is good but the best is the prawn soup in bread and the home made ice cream! We recommend this restaurant without hesitation. The restaurant is not easy to find (it is behind the church) and the access is "interesting" - but it is worth trying to find it!

Had lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The interior was comfortable and cozy with a bar on one side. The food is typical cuisine from Madeira (seafood, meat) and the portions are generous and decently priced. The owner Marcel was our waiter and was extremely attentive and helpful.Service was fairly quick, washrooms were clean and there is a nice patio that would be great if the weather is good.Solid choice in Santana!Thank you very much welcome again marcels bistro

My parents and I came across this beautiful restaurant while driving to the north of Madeira. The estate was really majestic, and with a great view across the valley. We only wanted a very light lunch, and opted for the soup and bolo do caco (Madeiran garlic bread). The bread and our drinks arrived promptly, but we waited on our soups for nearly 25 minutes. The soups were served in a large bowl, and were definitely good value for money considering their size. However, the taste and quality varied a lot. The traditional soup honestly tasted of nothing else than water and thymes. It was the most watery experience we’ve ever had. The potato and pea (?) soup was OK, but with little flavor. The fish soup had plenty of fish and shell fish, and a lot of flavor. So; a mixed bag of soups... As we didn’t have any mains, I’m not going to judge the entire restaurant based on its starters. But would expect faster service, and soups with flavor in this kind of establishment...

We booked this restaurant because our usual restaurant in Sao Jorge had a large party for lunch. The serving staff gave us a friendly welcome and were super efficient, and spoke good English (which was great, as we have little Portuguese). After ordering a good bottle of red Alentejo, we ordered 2 of the traditional Madeiran starters on a platter, which comprised 3 different butter recipes, stewed chicken stomach, pork, black-eyed beans, and 3 different types of bread, including potato bread. This combination provided a tasty re-introduction to traditional Madeiran fare. We followed with 3 of the restaurants casseroles cooked overnight in wood-burning ovens, combined variously with steamed vegetables, rice, and potatoes. The lamb and pork were very good but the kid (goat) casserole was a tad watery and included far too many bones, gristle, and fat and was somewhat tasteless. Our party of 4 ordered only 3 portions but this was more than enough for a (large) lunch. Should we visit again, we would only order 2 casseroles for 4 people. Thankfully, we shared; otherwise, the kid would have been a disappointment on its own. For dessert, we had tiramisu (very good), cheesecake (excellent with soft cheese and lovely raspberry reduction in a jar), and passion fruit pudding (only so so). Two of us then finished with some every good espressi. All together, a very good experience with friendly and efficient staff in a comfortable setting. Just what we needed after a fairly lengthy walk along the Levada do Rei. Pretty reasonable prices, too.

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Madeira and have just returned from an excellent East Island Tour arranged by Blandy Travel. As part of the Tour we - together with our 4 fellow travellers - had lunch in Santana at Quinta do Furao Restaurant. This caters for various tour groups and, fortunately, we were of the early arrvals. As such, we were allocated a nice table and - after being served drinks (choice of either juices, water or wine) we were soon enjoying a homemade Pea Soup. This was followed by Grilled Swordfish served with a good selection of vegetables and some sweet potato. Desert was a delicious Creme Caramel washed down by coffee. All in all, a delicious lunch at a property that has stunning coast/sea views as well as attractive gardens and flanked by vineyards. Difficult to bear and well worth a visit for anyone passing by!Dear Mr. Steve,Thank you for taking the time to post your review and for your positive remarks. On behalf of our hotel's team I would like to thank you for choosing Quinta do Furão and hope to welcome you once again in the near future.Kind regards,Mara CalaçaGuest Relations
