(The photo makes it look dismal - it isn't!) My wife and I have had lunch here a number of times, including with friends - the food has always been good, sometimes excellent - large portions (a single dose quite easily feeds 2), served quickly, efficiently, with a smile, and at an excellent price. On a nice day you can eat outside, or just take a coffee and a cake while you watch the world pass by, For lunch, certainly one of the best places in Portalegre.

Nice and cosy restauarant wit local dishes and great local wines. The meat dishes arevery tasty and the wines are very reasonable priced. The most expensive (Terras do Crato Tinto van Herdade do Gamito) was around ⬠9,00. The manager has great knowledge of these local Alentejo wines. I've been here twice and enjoyed it very much.

I was with a party of 4 who had lunch here yesterday. It's a pleasantly outfitted, if somewhat sterile, restaurant, in a nice spot, with decent service, and prices a little higher, but not scarily so, than many other restaurants in the area. To be honest, I was a little disappointed - I was expecting something noticeably better than elsewhere, but, really, it just wasn't - the meat was fine and tender (although the pork was a little underdone for my taste), but everything was over-salted, the chips and mashed potatoes were cold, and the portions somewhat meagre. The "Chocolate sublime" really was. If you're looking to impress some business colleagues (I wasn't) this may be a good place to take them - for a hearty meal with friends, there are many better options.

We had two excellent meals at O Talho after stuggling to find a decent place to eat in the off season. Great menu, terrific wines and very nice waiters. No english was spoken, but it didn't matter.

Portuguese tradicional and contemporary cuisine. (I do have some images and there are images on the restaurant's site).
Fantastic restaurant and service. The Chef knows the pork as almost no one.He uses and cooks it on several ways, with brilliant and tasty results.A mandatory restaurant.Good wines, and fair value for money.

This is a little sympathetic restaurant and I totally understand why the ratings are fairly high. The food was however not good - the menu of the day cod fish had a very fishy taste and was too salty. We didn't eat almost anything. This was especially upsetting because our wait for food was almost 1 hour on a Sunday afternoon.

The restaurant is closed for holidays and 1 November to 16 November. Thank you.
Had a splendid Alentejo meal with very good steak and porco iberico. Also an excellent grilled salmon. Very fresh ingredients. Owner speaks French and English, very enthusiastic man, gives good advice on wine and beer. Will recommend this nice restaurant to my guests at Quinta do Briando.

Warning a lot of bullfighting pictures and photos.Prices are very good in fact cheap for the quality.Soup vegetable with beans looked similar to a good caldo verde perfect. Bread proper and addictive.House red slid down to quickly, wine list very good and very fair on prices.Friendly and busy service. The beef is incredible and the homemade fries heavenly. The local specialties of desert made of pumpkin not sweet yet another perfect.Three generations of same family eating together at 10 pm despite the youngest be well under 5.This place has got everything perfect, long may it last.

A great place to taste some traditional and local cuisine. Friendly and efficient service, generous portions at a reasonable price and a good range of Alentejo wines at accessible prices. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as an authentic and positive experience.

Welcome to the Varanda do Alentejo - Marvão since 1987 Restaurant with typical Alentejo cuisine where you can taste old fashioned Tomato Soup, Lamb Stew among other dishes that we prepare specially for you.
We were greeted by the friendly manager in the street while looking for a local place of interest and then met the manager at the restaurant. His service was great - made super recommendations for local appetizers and main course. Kept us well informed of the menu and his service was simply outstanding. I should add there was one older waiter who seemed abrupt and a bit rude but this did not spoil our meal. Complements to the manager and the kitchen staff for an outstanding meal. Dear Customer and Friend, Thank you for giving us the privilege of serving you 3 times during your stay: Happy New Year for your family, it was also a privilege to enjoy your company. Until the next opportunity, Jorge
