We arrived hungry. Lovely colonial restaurant with open windows and hand painted walls. Food had lovely presentation and attractive options. We both had a ceasar salad then filet mignon with most most delicious risotto I have ever eaten followed by caramelised banana and chocolate ice cream. Wine was also well priced . Do go here. It's got charm, good service and good food. It's also next to the cathedral,Liberty Square,Santos Dumont house and round the corner from the Crystal Palace. So much better than a lunch at Bohemia Brewery.

Araras is a very nice place in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro. There is always a chilly in the air so if you plan to spend a night around don´t forget to take a nice wine.

There are various restaurants in this location but this seems to stand-out and better patronized for obvious reasons i.e. serve very good Portuguese cuisines and good wine. The first time we tried to have a meal hear was during the Easter holiday and it was a challenge to get a reservation, so we had settled for another restaurant. We later went back a day after and I can say the experience was fun. The meal was good, the waiters and the owner of the place were very friendly. Paying with card might prove difficult because of connectivity, so I will recommend you have a backup plan I.e carry cash or check with you.

The menu is always changing, so you will not get bored. And best of all, the owner utilizes local ingredients, e.g. palmeira de bananeira (the inner part of the banana bush). She would make it into a salad or as the filling of pastel. On weekends, the menu is even more interesting, e.g. BBQ of sheep done on woodfire on the ground, house-made sausages, etc. Yum....
