Things to do in Filey
Visited during our recent holiday to Filey and looking on the website we had quite high hopes. Me and the family love a good burger but I'm afraid it was all a bit of a let down.First of all, this isn't so much a burger/diner but rather a pub selling grub at the back. A bit taken aback we stayed as we were hungry and the food was the most important part. Went to the bar and asked where we should sit. The lady serving didn't really have a clue nor did she look like she was that interested. Instead we ended up sitting ourselves down and finding our own way about. After discovering you order in a back room, we ordered some starter plates (squid, breaded mushrooms and chicken satay) and two burgers. One was advertised as having a fried egg. My missus being six months pregnant and having being advised to not eat underdone eggs asked for a well done one. We also asked to upgrade to Sweet potato fries. The chap was very nice and polite but seemed to have difficulty working the ordering machine which looked way too fancy for the job, especially as the kitchen was two feet behind him. This took quite a few minutes to order.Starters came back quick enough and were ok but not home made. Burgers then arrived with an underdone egg and cold chips (no sight of the fries). All was pretty bland and cold. The missus' burger was returned with a well done egg but on the same burger and bread bun so the slime from the underdone yolk was still there which made it inedible for her. Finally the sweet potato chips arrived as we had almost finished and again were cold.Whilst the waitress was very apologetic and again very friendly, we just felt really let down by the whole thing. Very rarely do I leave food but on this occasion both plates were rather full by the time we left.In contrast, the gent sat to the side of us has a perfectly good looking Scampi and chips and left us wondering if we should have stuck to something simple as it did look rather good. All in all, I would suggest that the owners need to decide what they actually want to be as its all a bit muddled. I'd also stick to simpler pub grub than the long list of burgers and toppings, especially whilst the chef cannot cook.Keep expectations low and food simple and you might not be too disappointed.
What to do and see in Filey, United Kingdom (UK): The Best Places and Tips
We were staying at the Bay and daughter desperate for us to have pizza from here on our last night. Delicious take away pizza that you can sit in and eat from box or take away. We had to wait a while as they were super busy but we were told this up front and actually it was quicker than they said. Sat outside and had a drink from bar next door. Pizza was delicious. We had 4 and all of us enjoyed the toppings. Mine was gluten free, cooked in its own silver tray to prevent cross contamination. Would def recommenced. Yum yum.

Once again we enjoyed a lovely meal at this family run restaurant. We received a friendly greeting on arrival and were seated immediately. Drinks and food orders were taken promptly, after giving a sensible amount of time to choose. The meals of Italian Style Spare Ribs and Caprese Salad (starters) and Lasagne and Italian Sausage Penne (mains) were all excellent.Service throughout was good from the young serving team.We were offered (and accepted ) complimentary Limoncello on requesting the bill, which rounded off a lovely meal.Recommended.
