On State Highway 1, set amongst the vines is the iconic stone building that's home to Waipara Hills. Here you'll discover an operating winery, cellar door and seasonal cafe. Just 45 minutes drive from Christchurch.
Stopped at the winery for a quick lunch and chose the tasting platter with chorizo, smoked salmon, crumbed prawns, pickles, chutney, relish, walnuts and cheese etc.; with some wine of course. Service was prompt and the food was nicely proportioned and well presented. A great range of flavours and taste combinations,The Soul Pinot Gris was an excellent accompaniment.

The Old Leithfield Hotel Pub was one of the suggested dining options in our Amberley motel information book. We both enjoyed our pub meals at very reasonable prices, service was excellent. We enjoyed the home made carrot cake so much that we purchased some more to share with friends the next day. All the staff were friendly and we felt like locals very quickly.

This is a really lovely little cafe, just make sure you have time to wait! My husband had the chicken and mushroom filo and I had the salad. The salad was a big disappointment, a small bowl of spinach with a couple of orange segments and apple bites, not worth the money and definitely not a stand alone dish unless you are on a serious diet! needs something added to it... The filo was lovely. Coffee came out reasonably quickly, but before our meal. It was long finished before food was served. It wasn't particularly busy, just very inexperienced and slow staff. In saying that, they were polite and lovely, just need a bit of training.
Best tasting creamiest and most generous ice cream I have had since my Nanna made me one way back when

Popped in here for brunch on way home from ChCh today and to be honest was just expecting simple pub/café fare.. From the minute we walked in Jasmine on front of house was welcoming friendly and we felt like we had been welcomed into someones home :) ... absolutely fantastic service and the food was incredible! I had the open steak sandwich and omg the best Ive had...ever! My friend had the rump steak and salad.. we both commented it was the nicest piece of steak cooked the best we had had in years... absolutely delicious! and such good value (his was $15.50 and mine $18) ..great coffee, very very clean and bright premises and toilets etc amazing ... but the thing that really stood out was the service.. To the owners, I work in tourism and Jasmine is a credit to you and an asset to your business...awesome young lady with a bright future ahead of her in hospitality if she chooses to go further.. Jasmine , Thank you!! Will be in again and definitely recommend to others.. Nicci and Dave (Picton)

Unfortunately we visited this winery when restaurant was closed, however I can assure you the menu looked amazing with lots of local produce. The winery and surrounds were stunning. The wine itself was well priced and complex. Special thanks to the staff who gave âgenerousâ tastings so we could wander the grounds with a beautiful red wine.

Nice little cafe and bakery along Hwy 1. The limited bakery items are good for NZ tastes. If you have ever been to France and experienced a true French pâtisserie you would find the Amberley Paris Bakery wanting.

Sunday night dinner, only eatery that was known to be open in Amberley, just off the main Highway. Two hungry diners out for a meal. Nice family setting, service was great and the food simply awesome. Both ordered the Blue Cod (one crumb and one batter) and this meal really impressed. The fish was fresh ... the portion size of fish was outstanding (generous) awesome fries and a top salad. It may have been fish chips and greens but it was big in size, clean in taste and generous to a T ...totally exceeded any expectation for pub grub .....worth the 500k/m trip alone ... certainly would return .....Hi KennyThankyou for taking the time to review the railway tavern we are so pleased that you enjoyed our meals and hospitality go the mighty southland stags Cheers Marc

Driving down from Blenheim to Ashburton the NorâWester caught our eye as a decent place to stop and revive from a long journey. Initially unsure if it was open from the outside, we soon discovered it was. Nice stop for cake, coffee and cheese rolls.
