Find out what Middle Eastern restaurants to try in Hammamet. Sunbathing, al fresco dining and late-night discos are a way of life in Hammamet, the Tunisian St-Tropez. Located on the fertile Cap Bon Peninsula, about 40 miles south of Tunis, the bayfront resort is surrounded by verdant hills and citrus groves. When not basking on Hammamet Beach, browse the markets for local pottery or wander through the medina (old city) with walls that date to 1500. Summer brings festival fever to the city with plenty of music and theatrical offerings.

We faked illness to get out of this theme evening. Possibly the least fun i've had that didn't involve hospitalisation.Dear WalterOReilly,Thank you for sharing your experience in our Sheherazade Show Restaurant at Yasmine Hammamet Tunisia. We apologize that our restaurant did not feel your expectation. It is essential to recognize that exceeding customer expectations for everyone is virtually impossible. Our Restaurant Show is generally based on the show of music and dance sketching few steps on the legendary stage of Sheherazade. Dinner is also important the unique menu offered is distinguished by the quality of raw materials of Tunisian Specialties during the Showtime. Hope to see you in a future,Sincerely,Online Reputation ManagementMami Zahia / Medina Hotels & Resorts

Al Kalla is in the walls of the Medina and it entered up a red carpeted, lantern lit,set of steps. A large, nicely decorated interior with about 80 covers. The staff are friendly, really attentive and have a knowledge of English, enough to explain the dishes. There is an outside eating area, alongside the walls, sheltered from the busy road by foliage. We weren't tempted by the Lemonese dishes but our meals were fine, good portions, but not huge, and were well cooked and tasty. We found their prices were on a par with other places but their drink prices were somewhat higher. As a couple, we ate here three times, and apart from one meal, that was a little dried up, we enjoyed the food here.
This is a very pleasant place to sit outside almost on the beach and have lunch or dinner. It is actually part of the AlHambra Thelasso Hotel but the hotel itself is not actually on the beach - a few mins walk up the road. We had Sea Bass and Grilled Calamari. Both tasted fresh and were perfectly cooked and well presented. They came with a serving of a Tunisian dish called tastira and chips. Tastira is a very tasty local dish and made of hottish green peppers and eggs pounded up together. There were also the usual little nibble starters gratis to nibble while you wait - such as bread, olive oil, olives, harissa, mashed carrot salad. The only criticism was the 'caterer' type chips. I don't think they are freshly made but prob come in a pack ready to fry and may be made of reconstituted potato - a bit like the type you get in McDonalds.Waiter service was efficient and friendly and price reasonable for what we had and considering the surroundings (about 30 dinars for a fresh fish dish) - though you can get cheaper for the same in less upmarket beach cafes. Will definitely go again.
