Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States, and is one of the principal cities of the Baltimore metropolitan area. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. It began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious, and class segregation.

Middle of a strip mall in the Gateway complex
Very nice casual/chic Mediterranean restaurant, with fresh flavorful food. Lunch menu is extensive, with both traditional Mediterranean and American options. Lunch entrees include soup, salad and rice. Big portions at reasonable prices. Service is good, and there is a full bar. Plenty of parking, as the restaurant is in a strip mall.

We ordered takeout, so we did not experience eating in the restaurant, but it appears very informal and comfortable. Our food was ready when promised. We ordered three appetizers and three dinners for a group of four, and it was more than enough food.I would particularly recommend the chick pea curry appetizer and the chicken malai, but everything was very good.

In addition to the original Maiwand Kabob at Harper's Choice, this site combines a fine dining room experience with the takeout options & extra menu choices and specials.
We really enjoy Indian food, so it seemed worth trying this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor; an interior designer has worked wonders on this strip mall space. Unfortunately, the food has not received the same attention. It's the same old American Indian menu, with a very limited range of flavors. Nothing is bad, but nothing stands out either. We encountered one other major problem: We deliberately skipped the lunch buffet and ordered off the regular menu in hopes of getting hot, freshly prepared food. However, all of the food with one exception (one of the kebabs we ordered) seemed to be shoveled out of cooling tubs back in the kitchen. Given how long we had to wait for our meal, this seemed very odd. Portions are huge, so if all you care about is eating vast quantities of mediocre food without spending too much, this is the place for you. Otherwise, there are tons of better Indian restaurants in the area.

Create flavorful grain bowls, salads, and pitas and pair with house-made juices and other local treats.
As someone who is only marginally familiar with Mediterranean faire, I was intimidated by the choices and then very satisfied by the combination of foods I selected for my bowl. The ingredients were fresh and the service area and dining room were clean. I felt rushed by the servers as their focus is getting people through the line rather than answering questions or offering suggestions. The dining area is noisy with high, ceilings, bare floors and metal chairs. Great for a quick meal, but not a relaxing experience.
