We finally found good Mexican food in Novi!! Cute little Mexican restaurant with an authentic cuisine and live music. I recommend the Pollo Ranchero. Chips were hot and guacamole was excellent. We had excellent service as well. We will be back!!

My friend and I went for lunch. The first thing that struck me was the ambiance. It's a trendy more upscale look which is a surprise in a strip mall setting and for a Mexican restaurant. The managers and waitress were very attentive. My friend needs gluten and dairy free foods which are tough to find in a Mexican restaurant but the manager came over and explained the options. They are working on a special dietary needs menu..The food was good but not exciting. I was lured in by the upscale look but found the menu to be the same old Mexican fare. That was disappointing. The manager asked for our thoughts and I said doesn't Mexico have any fresh contemporary food? It would be nice to experience something besides enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, nachos... He said those are the items that are most popular. And I agree they are popular and tasty but I believe the Mexican culinary world has more to offer!

I was looking for a new place to try and my husband suggested La Herradura after driving past it. We walked in around 6:00 PM on a Wednesday night. We were greeted promptly and our server was polite and friendly.First bad sign: while they still offer 48 oz. pitchers of margaritas on the menu, it is "no longer available". (Did they lose all of their 48 oz pitchers?) I'm a firm believer that if you have something on the menu, you'd better sell it. We talked through our single margarita options and feeling optimistic, decided to go big and get the 60 oz pitcher...which arrived with 80% ice. Not worth it. If the margaritas weren't watered down before they made it into our pitcher, they certainly were once the ice kicked in. The mix is just too syrupy-sweet for my taste. The next item of concern was the salsa: bland, bland, bland. Bland as in no salt or seasoning. It tasted like plain tomato sauce. We were able to identify tiny bits of onion and cilantro, but not enough to provide any flavor. On to dinner..my husband ordered enchiladas, I ordered steak fajitas. My fajitas arrived looking just one chop short of the texture of ground beef -- at least, that goes for the pieces of meat you could find. Calling them steak (or even beef) was a far cry from what I received, it was mostly vegetables. (FTR, I like a nice 60/40 ratio of meat to veggies, this was probably 30/70.) As with the salsa, those poor little fajitas had no flavor...none. I requested lime wedges and extra pico de gallo to help amp up the flavor of my plate full of sautéed veggies then introduced it to a few shakes of salt. Just. Not. Good. In fairness, I saw another table get orders of chicken fajitas which appeared to arrive sizzling and looking more meaty than my sad little "steak" fajita plate. I asked my husband about his enchiladas and his one-word description was again, "bland". We abandoned 80% of our margarita pitcher and vegetable/"steak" fajitas and decided to continue our search for a good Mexican restaurant in the area.

Be prepared to wait more than 15 minutes for your "fast food" order. Their back room food prep process was unbelievably slow. We were there around 1:00 p.m. on a Tuesday, and although it was busy, we could not believe how long we had to wait along with everyone else.We got to the point where everyone was asking if they had lost their orders. No - just really slow in getting them done.

We really like authentic Mexican food/restaurants and the fact that it is easy to eat wheat free. We happened upon this one on a Tuesday when tacos, made with soft corn tortillas and plump with meat and garnished generously with onion and cilantro, were only $1 each. (The regular price is $1.89.) We ordered 3 different fillings each and had plenty to eat. I also ordered flan, quite enough for two, because I felt guilty about spending so little at this small restaurant. We want to make sure they stay in business! The salsa that came with the chips was mild enough for me while there was a spicier version as well as a salsa verde that was quite spicy on every table. The food was very good as was the service and the value was absolutely spectacular. Our dilemma now is whether to return for another Taco Tuesday bargain or try one of the many other items on the menu.

I am officially taking Burrito King off my lunch list. Everyone that came AFTER us got served BEFORE us. That leaves me sour. We didn't even order anything complicated... Just 4 corn tacos. It should have been a quick lunch. (Not to mention my carrots tacos were too salty)Motored through the entire basket of chips while waiting 40 minutes for those dang tacos.Such a waste.
