Things to do in University Place
Our son chose Mexican for his birthday dinner, so we came here. When we arrived, looked like we were going to wait long. However we only waited less than 10 minutes. We ordered our food & waited 30 minutes...which was with the wait! It was authentic! Our waitress was so polite & friendly. The atmosphere is cozy. If looking for a good authentic Mexican restaurant in Tacoma, this is the place to be!!!

My dad & I stop in here on occasion after a run or hike for a quick bite to eat. If advertising is to be believed than their real staples are fish tacos and burritos; both of which I have found to be average at best. You can really build your own tastier burrito or taco at home for cheaper. I still eat here from time to time because I am health conscious and can get a 'better for you' meal than other fast food joints. If you live in University Place and want to grab something a little bit better than Bruger King or Mcdonalds on the way home than it's not a terrible option. If you are into burritos than Chipotle is the place to go. Sadly the closest joint is in Federal Way.

Recently went on a Friday night for happy hour before seeing a concert at the Tacoma Dome. Definitely get there early because they get busy real fast, especially on the weekends. Happy hour menu has good variety of food but no drink specials. I had the blood orange margarita, very tasty and made strong. Nachos, black bean queso, guacamole, street tacos and the jalapeño poppers were amazing!
A couple of years ago, under a slightly different name, I gave this place a five star review. They have spent a lot of money beautifying, nice lounge area, outside deck, bar and comfortable seating. Unfortunately this has come at the expense of what made this place so special. Informality, a relish bar with free spicy carrots and onions and choice of salsas. Gone. The menu while still good has eliminated some authentic choices not found at the chain Mexican restaurants and raised the prices. Too bad. The food is still tasty, the chips with beans and salsa for free a cut above competitors. The best thing is the 2-5 PM Happy Hour where all single menu items, select beers and drinks are all $1.49. A great deal, hope they keep it up.

We go out for tacos at least once a week. Recently decided to try Taqueria El Sabor and am so glad we did. Fresh, high quality ingredients, great service, clean and well maintained. And lots of different fresh salsas and toppings to choose from! All the meats are excellent, but the chicken is outstanding! This is our new favorite place.
