Good, economical, family-style restaurant with very fast service and authentic Mexican flavors
The outdoor seating is very nice. There is a bubbling creek with a footbridge nearby that is a really nice touch (I believe the creek goes all the way to Montreat but I'm not sure). The service staff are excellent and very friendly. But, the bottom line is the food, isn't it? The food was just the typical Americanized mexican food... plates of lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, refried beans, rice, a meat, and tortillas - in various combinations. Nothing spectacular. Most likely will not return.

Tried this restaurant based on trip advisor reviews and was not disappointed!! Service was outstanding, the salsa bar was excellent and the food was amazing. We ordered the Mexican City tacos, carne Asada tacos and carne asada burrito. All were HUGE portions and absolutely excellent quality. I would come here again and again, prices were very reasonable!

Visited with 5 colleagues for business lunch. We waited and watched four other tables get served that arrived after we did. Patio seating nice & off from the main road, which helps with noise. Interesting atmosphere. It appears that the place must have been a 50âs diner at some point. Food is California style but a bit bland. Plenty of options. Bathrooms need an update. Plenty of parking, but spots are very narrow. Was a trick to get my Tundra parked at lunch time. Slow service was very unnecessary. Friendly, but slow. Convenient location.

Polancos is in a really old building which has been lovingly restored. We ate down stairs and the space was charming. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. They offer several different menus which made ordering a lot easier for those who are vegan or vegetarian. They were out of several items but the server made some suggestions and they were perfect. The salsa and chips were yummy and we shared a vegan taco platter. The cauliflower was drop back delicious. Every one was friendly and we would return.

Someone at the doctor's office recommended this place. So I stopped here ordered a Chile poblano and a chicken enchilada with rice and beans. Enchilada was pretty good however they should have put sauce inside as well cause the chicken was somewhat dry. The poblano was good but my rice has hardly no flavor. The salsa bar was interesting. I may come back and try something else.

My wife and I ate here on a very busy Sunday afternoon. It was packed. Parking is inadequate for the number of would-be diners--many people had to park and walk some distance. Access into the restaurant is not the best for handicapped diners. We and six other arrivals stood and were completely ignored by the busy staff for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence. Evidently, many members of the service staff do not speak English and will not make eye contact or acknowledge any spoken word. The actual waiters were competent, pleasant and English speaking; however, they were extremely overworked and hurried. On the whole, service was very slow from beginning to end. We waited before seating and we waited for the check. While dining, we were harrassed by house flies. The food was OK. We were told by the staff on the hotel service desk that it was the best Mexican in Black Mountain. I'll take their word for it, it probably is the best in Black Mountain, but it is nothing special. My wife and I will not be going back--it was not the most pleasant dining experience.

Having come from Texas, I am pretty particular about Mexican cuisine. This hole in the wall along Hwy 70 would escape most motorist's attention. Deservedly so for its appeal is not in its decor or style. But the shy waitresses will take good care of you as if your visiting a private home. Go with the specials and the waitresses advise you what is on the stove. Not all things on the menu are available anysways. Flavors were superb and you could tell the sauces had simmered and ingredients simple and fresh. Inexpensive and authentic.
